Ethics in our profession.

This rant I'm going to start is meant mainly for the newer guys in this profession. A lot of people come here and call themselves professionals. That's great to see but it would mean much more if someone else called you a professional. Heck I can get on this forum and tell you I've been in this profession for 30 years, it sounds good but it isn't true. The statement was made that if we don't stop undercutting bond premiums and keeping our word to Recovery Agents, this business won't be here much longer. I absolutely agree. If you truly want to be a professional in this business I strongly urge you to join The National Association of Bail Bond Investigators. This profession is going to hell in a hand basket due to those professionals that haven't a clue what professionalism is. If you have no formal traing in this business you are NOT a professional. There are some old school Bail Agents that this does not apply to. They've been around long enough that they won't tell you they are professionals, they don't have to, everybody knows it. If you are truly serious about this profession and being a professional I urge you to call Tony Suggs, Scott MacLean, Joe Stiles or Bill Marx and see what NABBI can do for you. Frankly, the guys that are heading this up probably won't be in business to reap the benefits of their work, these guys are old school.

You owe it to yourself, your fellow Agents and to this profession to look into joining this association.

To be perfectly honest with you, my reasons for encouraging you to join NABBI are strictly personal. I'm sick and tired of dealing with self proclaimed professionals that won't put a dime into improving themselves or the way our profession is viewed by many.

Don't just call yourselves professional, let somebody else say it for you. it carries much more weight and business for you.

When you call and talk to one of the guys I mentioned ask them the type training that was given at the last meeting, it will blow your socks off!! These guys are the cream of the crop so you really want to be called a professional, then make the call yourself. One more thing, Always keep your word.

Those that have been to my office can attest to this: along with a wall full of pictures of captured fugitives, I have a cork board full of bail bond cards for people that are no longer in this business. They all had one thing in common, they were going to put this business on it's ear and show the old school cats how it is done...they are all gone. They hurt this industry but they don't care. Greed was the order of the day and what ruined them. The old school guys remain and are struggling to save their family businesses from all of the outside forces working against them, and it is heart breaking.

As a newb in this biz for a whopping (almost) four years, and pretty much coming up in the era you guys are describing, I can't imagine how hard it must be for you vets to see the threatened destruction of your livelihood from the inside out. Unfortunately, the biz as it is now is all I know.

I am trailing light years behind; from a lot you guys.

In a rookie's stand point; at times, a rookie is miss guided/informed and fall short in finding a good mentor (lucky if s/he gets mentored)
Without you guys overseeing and correcting us rookies or newbies, we, new BEAs would have a hard time treading in this industry. Kudos to all you real professional for taking the time in sharing your valuable knowledge.
