Skippy, my jokes often hide advice, but of course, that is a value judgement on the readers part... whether it is pertinent to your situation is something, as mentioned, that only the reader can ascertain.

Joking yes but with a message within.

Absolutely the best advice I've seen in a long while, if ever Bill. This profession is very complicated and down right difficult most of the time. If there is any glamor in this business I've yet to find it.
I have found however, a lot of sleepness nights, missed birthday's, missed times with the grand-kids, calls from my wife and four (grown) kids while I'm a thousand miles away as well as late night calls from Indemnitors (I also own a bonding company) telling me my client is getting prepared to flee and a call asking me to check on a client only to find him hanging in the garage, to a Mother calling me to tell me her son, my client had commited suicide (meth) and the list goes on and on and on.

Getting in this profession shouldn't be taken lightly. It can be down right physically and emotionally draining.

Not to mention that one bond gone bad, can destroy the financially unprepared.
Hell, we don't work 12 hour shifts, we're on call 24/7. My advice to anyone including my three boys is, if you want to get in this game make damn sure you've done your due diligence and be prepared financially and emotionally for things to occur that you had never dreamed of.

After all my doom and gloom here, I must say I enjoy my work most of the time but no way would I encourage my three son's to get in this business.

What I'm attempting to say, (and not doing a very good job) is I think that those of us that have been in this game "for a minute" should and maybe have an obligation to inform the folks considering getting in this profession, that if you're looking for glamor you have come to the wrong place. If, however you are entering with your eyes wide open and still willing to jump in, you can find satisfaction in a lot of aspects of this profession, you just have to look really hard sometimes.

My comments are directed at no individual. Just my take on starry eyed folks thinking this profession is mostly glitz and glamor.

I think I've mis-spelled many words on here but to tired to correct.

Take care

Bill, I believe you and I have traveled very similar miles on the same road.

As for your misspelled words... no problem. If you right click on the misspelled word, it will give you a list of possible corrections... that is how my posts are grimaticly and puctuatively and mistike free. 8)

Bill W,
Excellent post and most accurate. I think one of the reasons my kids want nothing to do with this business is you have no free time. When the phone rings, we must react. Although they received the financial blessings associated with this business, none have the dedication to run it. I have been all over this country picking up skips and like Bill Marx in his truck driving days, have experienced all 4 seasons in a single cross coun try trip to recover a skip.
The shame is, there is no loyalty on the part of the bondsmen. I can recover a $100,000 skip and they will give the next case to an unproven crack head, because he may accomplish the job cheaper. Personally, I reward this practice with a 10% penalty for not having given the case to me in the first place.

We were just in your back yard, racing in Wilson/Elm, NC

Scott, I would love to have met you guys while you were here in NC but had my own pedal to the metal at the time. I am very much looking forward to meeting as many of you guys and Gals as I can at the NABBI meeting and who know's you might be back here or maybe I'll be in your part of the country before the meeting.

I was in Baltimore picking up a skip just before joining the forum.
One thing I left out of the other post. Most people haven't a clue what we do, but I know when I come to this forum there are people that can relate. That is a good thing.

Bill W,

You should have called and we could have picked up your package in Baltimore and delivered him to you!

We have done that allot on this network, ferrying fugitives across this country for fun and profit!

Oh, by the way, Bob Reilly thinks I snore...the nerve of him!

Scott
