my new years

New years night was Insane, I got a call from one of my co-signers, about a guy I had bonded out, he told me over the phone, that the guy I was looking for was standing out side of a bar, on the south side of town, so I went there looking for him, now this bar is a huge place, probably 2 or 3 thousand square feet, i looked inside for about 10 minutes, then went outside and started checking entrances, while I was standing there talking to a bartender, I saw my guy, I walked right up to him, and said "you kno who I am?" he said, "I think so", I then told him to turn around and put his hands behind his back, his very large hispanic friend stepped in, and blocked me, and the guy took off running, I was in a dead sprint after him through the parking lot, we ran into the woods with me right behind him, he jumped in a drainage ditch, on the woodline, and started swimming, I wasnt about to jump in the ditch and catch, Hepatitis or some other disease, so i called the sheriffs department, and they brought out their dogs to help track him, we looked around for about an hour, then finally the police said they had to move on, wich was inderstandable, because it was new years. So I started heading home, to get some sleep, about 2 hours later, I get a call from the police dept, saying they think they had my guy, I went down to identify him, and it wasnt him, so as I'm driving home, I pass a black truck that was just sitting in the middle of the intersection, and I noticed this person was not moving, so i get out to check on him, and he is completely unconscience, I phone the police, and they show up and start banging on the window, and he is still not moving, so they had to bust his window out, and take his car keys, I was standing there watching all this, and they finally wake him, and he was so intoxicated he couldnt even walk, he had no idea where he was, after that, I finally went home and fell asleep nearing sun up.

Oh yeah, and sorry for all the horrendous spelling, and run on sentences.

I'm laughing now, but it just wasnt the best way to start the new year off.

That reminds me of a situation that happened when I first started in this business.

I got my start helping my wifes uncle who had been doing recovery work for bondsmen in NM since he left the Marine Corps the early 70's, I quickly learned that anyone that got between him and his skip had made a serious mistake.

One night we were at a bar where our skip was known to hang out, we saw the skip playing pool and I stood off to the side so I could watch the group the skip was with while my partner / mentor approached to effect the arrest, one of the guys in the group started "puffing up" like a tough guy and began to object, before he was able to finish his sentence my partner swung a beer bottle and the next thing I saw was blood, broken glass and a few of this guys teeth on the pool table, my partner then drew his Colt 45 and asked the rest of the group if they wanted to join the party, when they declined he cuffed the skip and we left.

That's only one of the many crazy things he did, maybe he'll write a book someday.

I learned a lot from my mentor who was very good at recovering skips, he is now retired due to severe arthritis in his leg, I also learned a lot about what not to do as well, my approach is much different than his, he was "old school" and getting arrested every once and a while was just part of the job for him, I on the other hand was not willing to push my luck far enough to get arrested or risk unnecessary liability, so I went out on my own so I could do things my way.

Chuck I have the feeling that your talking about at least 20 years ago--when there were more bad guys than lawyers and cops had a different view of the world--bad guys were bad guys not misunderstood socio deprived underprivilaged members of society--In those days if a bad guy puffed either you or him were going to get a beating( no pepper spray no taser and when i dragged the bad guy into the precint-he always fell down the steps--now its always assumed we used to much force and its our fault--I believe the worm will turn and we will reach a center some day soon

Actually it was only about 7 years ago, I guess he got away with it because of the type of people he was dealing with ie: meth heads, drug dealers ect...

He retired from the business in 1999, it was probably for the best since he was on thin ice with many of the local PD's, his approach certainly would not be tolerated now.
