It is simply nearly impossible to get and, if you do, I wouldn't use it for fugitive recovery work!

In most larger metro counties in CA, you have to have a really good cause and maybe a "in" with the sheriff office.

What did you put as your reason for applying? That will make all the differance. Its not impossible, but you have to effectivly articulate WHY you need it. Not just "for personal protection".

Madison...

I for my reason i pretty much said it was for the protection of myself and my family. I have spoke to a few instructors thoughout the state, and they have each told me that was the best thing? so far i have not heard back from them, but im assuming its going to take sometime. I have hear alot of people tell me i have no chance, and then again others have told me you have a great chance. so im just curious if anyone has tried or know anything about it. ...

For personal protection, you need to show a threat against you, either in the past or currently. Some S.O.'s just will not issue at, all such as San Francisco and Alameda.

Others are just very tough to get.

I heard the standard good causes to be; working in dangerous neighborhoods, carrying lots of cash or valuables and past or current threats or assaults against you.

Unfortunatly I would bet money that you will not get it for the reason you put. That is not an acceptable reason in the Sheriffs eyes, everyone wants personal protection...Whoever told you to write that is WAY off, thats actually the worst thing to write  .

You need to be specific.. like "because for my job I apprehend people and I have ran into many of them and have been placed in many threatening situations with myself or family because of what I do and the people I deal with" type of thing... but very specific.. What makes you need one more then the average citizen wanting protection in other words. Of course if you have a restraining order on someone thats always good-- a gimme. or if you have had one in the past you can work it.

Also, make sure you can elaborate your training of the weapon, like having taken the PC 832 firearms course in the county of San Berdo through the sheriffs where you live will help them with approval knowing that you have been well trained.

Im no expert at this but I have been doing alot of research on it and this is what I have found to be true...

Madison,

Thanks for the info. We will see what happens. There has been some talk that things might be lightening up in the near future regarding CCW permits. Thanks again

In CA, it al depends on the local sheriff.

Just an FYI, if Kamala Harris wins the AG spot, you can expect tougher guns laws from the state.
