EVERYONE IS A BOUNTY HUNTER LATELY

Has anyone else noticed that in the past couple of weeks people are quickly claiming to be bounty hunters... especially if there is a camera available? Where is everyone coming from? Is there a field where some alien deposits spores that hatch every few days? They're coming from the left and the right, above and below.

Look out! Here comes another one!

Alien spores? I like that reference! I think when they are all washed up from a previous industry they have nothing better to do than to try and legitimize themselves to the rest of the world by changing their names and outfits (or lack of). The more these types of individuals come into this industry the bigger a joke it becomes think about it all, convicted felons, porn stars, rambos and such will eventually bury all of us into a regulated quagmire that will cause the demise of this industry. I am sooooooo.... proud to be associated with these types in our business

Do you think it is not a good idea to pursue a career in this field if there is already so many out there?

Well Joshua that depends on how well you like chicken and feathers. Cause your mnore chicken if you are good, trustworthy and can catch a few bad guys and girls. Your eating feathers if you don't. Ramp up some decent training and get working with a real pro.

As for alien spores...not sure. Im sure the bounty hunter thing is topic of the day. Next month it will be something else.

"What can the bear do for you?"

This is scary, In my fugitive recovery class there were people that could not read or spell and never made it past the 8th grade. They still passed the class and out there doing recovery work. I will not list the school. They should fall on the own someday.

Thats OK, we can probably figure out which of several schools that would be. They do not care about quality only quantity and how much they can line their pockets with money. They spit out so many un-qualified individuals into this business that I have changed my mind about government getting involved with regulations and standards.

If there was a standard set by the government on training, licensing or certification and regulations maybe all of this garbage would stop. I hate the government getting involved but, if something is not done soon they might just remove our rights to perform our jobs.

Bob, If the goevernment regulations are imposed soon with a nationwide standard then things could get bad. Its not good for government to be involved to that extent most of the time, but hey POST regulates peace officers, why not a nationwide standard for persons such as ourselves that also make arrests. Makes good sense to me. We have to get PI licenses to do investigations, why not some type of standard of training for all recovery work as well. Unfortunately most of the BEA schools are just a waste of time and money, with litle to offer a new person in the way of solid training and substance. Seminars are a waste also.

"What can the bear do for you?"

I agree Eric, however if something is not done it will be done for us. We ourselves may have to come up with something to propose to the government before they tell us what we will have to do. I get the feeling that it is coming from our government sooner rather than later.

All of the media attention over the last couple of years that has wakened the public eyes to what we do, albeit, in the wrong way, has caused alot of concern in the law abiding publics eyes about the rights and powers we have as private citizens. With these concerns someone that has had their rights violated by someone in this industry, is going to have the ear of a powerful politician that will set us on our back sides.

I disagree with the statement that "Seminars are a waste of time". The seminars I have atteneded have benefitted me greatly in several ways, the least of which is networking and developing contacts or clients.

I also learn alot about changing laws for that particular area, I make myself known to people in that area, etc.

Lastly, I simply enjoy the comraderie and fellowship of my counterparts.

It is my belief that all training has some value---I seem to remember back in the early 70's a rookie came out of the police acadamy and was assigned a fto(field training officer) to ride with and learn from - hi name was CERULLO the first thing he said is remember what you were taught and than through the book out the window--even bad training has a positive impact on our occupation if we can recoginize that the training was no good--again i believe that shows why a mentor is so important in this business-you can be the best trained bea in the world but without street smarts you will not last long in this world we call bea
By the way cerullo had a book written about him it was called the last great gunfighter if i remember correctly.he retired after approx 2 years of riding with me
