MARLBOROUGH —
A 34-year-old Marlborough man was held without bail after his arraignment today in Marlborough District Court on charges he beat his roommate with a beer bottle during a Sept. 18 fight at their Lincoln Street apartment.
The roommate, 38-year-old Romero Mejia, died at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester this weekend from injuries that may have been related to the fight, according to court testimony.
Noe Martinez, 34, of 475 Lincoln St., was arraigned on charges of aggrevated assault and assault with a dangerous weapon. The assistant district attorney who is prosecuting the case said she expects Martinez will face additional charges pending a police investigation.
A Marlborough District Court judge scheduled a dangerous hearing for Martinez on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has also requested that Martinez be retained.
According to court testimony, Marlborough police interviewed Mejia at UMass Memorial Hospital on Friday, Sept. 24, a week after the fight. At that time, Mejia said Martinez struck him with a beer bottle, according to court testimony. Martinez acknowledged striking Mejia but said he was defending himself against attacks from Mejia and Mejia’s friends, according to court testimony.
Police are investigating whether Mejia may have sustained another injury in the week after the fight occurred and when he sought treatment at UMass Memorial Hospital on Thursday, Sept. 23.

"When the politicians (and the wanna be politicians) knock on your door, ask them on where they stand on illegal immigration, and see what kind of answers you get. I tell them up front if they aren't willing to try and do something about the problem, then I won't even consider voting for them. It's time to put the squeeze on these so-called representatives of the people....."
