Just a couple of quotes I have found interesting.... Please note item 1.

As John Steinbeck once said:

* 1. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.
* 2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics stink.
* 3. I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.
* 4. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.
* 5. A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him 'Why do you carry a 45?' The Ranger responded, 'Because they don't make a 46.'
* 6. An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.
* 7. The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. 'Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?' 'No Ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle.'
* 8. Beware the man who only has one gun. HE PROBABLY KNOWS HOW TO USE IT!!!

"Having a gun in the house that isn't loaded is like having a car in the garage without gas in the tank."

"The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense. The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental."

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
Thomas Jefferson Papers

... and I think, a very good one...............

"How long would the Nazis have kept it up...if every Jew they came after had met them with a gun in his hand?"
Walter Mathau - Fail Safe - 1964

... and one more............ "Professionals argue tactics. -- Amateurs argue caliber."

Good stuff. I also like the unofficial Army 'rules of conflict'.

1. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.
2. Decide to be aggressive enough, quickly enough.
3. Have a plan.
4. Have a back-up plan, because the first one probably won't work.
5. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
6. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun whose caliber does not start with a "4."
7. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap. Life is expensive.
8. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral & diagonal preferred.)
9. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.
10. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.
11. Always cheat; always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.
12. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.
13. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating your intention to shoot...

I also like this one.

Someone once said to Voltaire, `Life is hard.' To which he replied: 'Compared with what?'

Those are excellent... some of them have been around a long, long time... I am an old former (not ex) Marine and they were being passed around in the 60's.... thanks for the update. 8)

First off, you don't get old by being a fool.
Therefore, I have a few of my own...

Never engage someone that has more idle time then you do.

Never engage with someone that will not keep to the point of discussion, he is a moving target.

Never pay for the same real estate twice, have the wisdom to learn from others mistakes.

The road less traveled is not necessarily the wrong path.

It is human nature to be lazy, so wake up earlier, stay later and become as educated as you can, you will trounce your competition.

Wisdom whispered in the ear of a fool is inherently foolish.

Multiple revenue streams in varied fields of endeavor will provide financial stability in all economic conditions.

If you can always get up one more time than your opponent can knock you down, you will never lose.

Surround yourself with winners, it is contagious and will permeate your entire life.

Conversely, distance yourself from losers, needy people and leeches, they are unproductive and time consuming.

Never discount God's blessings, teachings and plan for you, hence you will get humbled!

Scott
