I have been looking around and trying to find information on the UCEA and how it applies to me and my actions while working and i cannot seem to find any solid information.

Is this a federal law or statute? Where can i find a copy of the UCEA?

If anyone could help me in this department i would appreciate it very much, I know that the UCEA is very important and i would like to make 100% positive that im in compliance with the law. If noone wants to explain it to me thats fine, but could you possibly lead me in the direction of a link or something so that i could print out a hard copy and familiarize myself with the law.

TIA

Each state has it's own codification for the UCEA except SC and MO.

Thank you very much for that clarification but is there any way anyone can help me find the information for every state on a website or anything like that?

Stephen,
have you checked with the Attorney General's office in your state?

I'll keep trying to found out what I can too...

Try Google, it is an excellent search engine and will most likely get you going in the right direction.

Things to remember...

All states consider their citizens to be sovereign, and removing them from their state of residence to another without letting the subject avail him or herself of their civil rights, in this case to fight or wave extradition, is against local as well as federal law. The two exceptions are MO and SC, which never agreed to the UCEA.

General rule of them, always check in with local LE, always write down the name of the person you spoke to and get a business card for further proof that you did check in, call the individual you spoke to back when the subject is in custody and give them the opportunity to verify that you have the correct person. Being forthright will generally get you a free pass, which is as close to a magistration process as you will get in most places. Your defense is that you tried to present the fugitive to them and they told you to take him to where he is wanted.

This is absolutely fast and loose and the way it happens most times. Correct me if I am wrong, but it has always worked for me. Some states to be careful of, MA and TX, they take the UCEA very seriously and will arrest you if it is not done legally and correctly. Not to mention the states that have no commercial bail where your knowledge of the law in those states will be required to accomplish your task.

Best of luck,

Scott
