Just as an observation, the greatest majority of the people that I bond out, roughly 80% are Nolle Prosequied, Stetted or Probation Before Judgment (PBJ). So if one were to follow this through, 80% of the people we bond are not found guilty, it doesn't mean that they aren't, could be sharp attorneys, sloppy police work, improper chain of custody of evidence, etc.
As a rule, I do not bond sexual predators, sexual assaults, or child related offenses. There are always exceptions verbalized by the family or alleged victims that motivate a different outcome.

I have only done 2 sex-oriented bonds. The first was a failure to register that I got out twice. The first time his local boss signed. The second time he got fired, and I took his camping trailer as collateral. The same day he missed court I put him back in jail and confiscated it for his non-payment of bond premium. What he owed me was about all it was worth, and we had to strip it out and use Kilz on everything that was left to kill the stench. That was after leaving it open for almost a week to air out enough that we could even get near it.
The other defendant was a $100K bond. I took his sister's property as collateral, as well as $10K in cash just in case I had to pay to chase him. He was an elderly guy and really had no place to run. He had one previous charge many, many years ago, but was otherwise clean. He never missed his weekly call-in, and never missed a court appearance. He was convicted and is currently in DOC.
I write bonds based on the person, their history, cosigner, collateral, etc. Getting people out of jail is a business, and we can't always just stand on our principles, as much as we would like to. If it is a solid bond and we refuse to do it, we are only giving somebody else the money, because somebody will write it. I may not want the person on the streets, but if I write the bond, I do have some control over them. If I don't write it, somebody else will, and I lose financially. Our decisions have to be based on business as well as principle. I have high standards, but I am not stupid. Decisions have to be based on reason as well as emotions.

I have bonded many child molestors. If its a good bond, meaning I dont think they will get away from me, and they have the cash, someone is going to bond them. Even though it disgusts me, I might as well have their money as the next guy, and they will be out of jail awaiting trial anyway.
As for Cobra, I have used the man before. He performed above and beyond what I expected. Did a fantastic job. If he is guilty, he should pay the price like anyone else. Remember, this is a news report. There are two sides to every story and the truth normally lies somewhere in the middle. If he didnt do it, I would use him again. He has done nothing to me.
Im not trying to sway anyone on either issue. Just stating my opinions and experiences.

Andy I see your point and yes, if it was not the way that it was portaryed by the media then it is a different story. If he did as was stated then he has "crossed the line". In that case I would deem His intentions were honorable in that he was trying to assist in the only way that he felt he could, in locating a baby that has been taken or done away with by others. Even so, he would not have the right to lay hands on anyone . . .

Luvonda, if he did wrong, he should answer for his actions, whatever the state decides. Again, I wouldnt hesitate to use him again. I had a gal that was ready to skip the country in a matter of a hours, literally. He caught and held her til I could get there. I couldnt have asked for more.
Bill, the way Cobra explained it to me, he is a bondsman. He keeps his license with a company and writes just a few bonds a year to keep them legal. This way he can do recoveries.

This way he can do recoveries. understand, thanks. I will add that I too have used people that performed way above the norm... and yet they have been chewed on by some very important (influential) people in this business... so, you really do have to decide for yourself who works for you... too many variables in our business and also, I have found... way too many varying personalities that often conflict with each other and provide way too many opinions... so having said that... to each his own. I try to judge people on personal interaction rather than who said, he said...

I used another guy one time in Georgia that I mentioned to some folks on here and he got a thumbs down. However, he did a great job for me and I wouldnt hesitate to use him again either.
People have different experiences with other people. Until someone does me wrong, I am loyal. If they do me wrong, its over, for good.
