No need to get testy, Sno....

Even if they arent balls on accurate, Ive had plenty of times I would have liked to have known the general area my skip was in or where he was an hour ago. Hell, even a day ago!

Then at least you got a place to start the investigation....

PS: I have one right now I wish to hell I could ping. Everyone is pointing me toward Seattle WA. I got some info leading me to believe it could actually be in LA. Im actually waiting on Dee Driger to run a number for me to solidify something. In the mean time maybe a ping could narrow the scope from the WA-LA down to a area.... LMFAO

That was not directed at you, Andy. My appologies. That is why I made sure to include "but after my latest PM....". This way the intended recipient would get the message.

I do agree that true "pinging" would be a great tool to have, if it works. I was told that they skip trace to the most recent and most used tower, triangulate off that and come up with the most likely area according to data searches. Coming from a a company that "pings", I thought it was good information. Maybe not....but I thought.

(Man, I hope I didn't have any misspellings, lack of capitalization and punctuation....I might get a nasty gram)

Legal and legitimate pinging and or triangulation done by court order/subpoena by phone company personnel is accurate. The question as I read it, referred to private companies offering this service, and most have deemed them expensive scams. The individual we just brought back from Vietnam was done through the FBI (Thanks guys!) and they utilized these services to locate the moron on his Verizon phone.

Do not discount subpoenas for information to OnStar, BMW, Mercedes Benz and other companies that can and do offer sat links to monitor your car. These are just as profitable as tools to locate your subjects. (HINT)

Scott,

You just gave away the top secret information that we hard working government investigators use to track our bandits.  8)

Thank you, Scott. That may be the difference in everyones experience. I was talking about and to a private company. That may shed some light on the subject.

Sorry Gene,

But that skill set is not a strange activity to us :)

You owe me lunch since I didn't charge for that tidbit :)

Gene, Who do think started playing outside the box first?
I have personally dealt with LE that have straightup asked me "What connections do you have" and I just smile and say "I have no connections I just do my job" (this came on the heels of me a DL # on somebody, from an interview that I had done in the field) LOL It solved their case 8)

Oh yes LuVonda, I know that PI/BEA's may have better information avenues than most law enforcement, I rely on both skills to do the government work and my private business. I was just pulling Scott's leg. :)
