Ok... back to the nite vision stuff... I read, looked and priced a bunch... staying below $600... actually I paid slightly less than $400 but the next step was over $700 so anyway...

binoculars can be expensive... I tried out a '
monocular' but using binoculars for extended periods of time is far superior to the 'one eye' models... IMHO of course. Most of the models from all brands are digital ambient light enhanced with the additional IR capability for "no light" conditions. There are no true upper level IR models under a couple of grand that I can see.... true Gen 3 binocs are out of my pay grade... and those movies you see that show 'heated' objects as white or lighter than surrounding objects are upper end stuff that most of us cannot afford anyway........... as I understand the technology... IR at the low spectrum is what many animals sight is like, which is why cats and other nite predators can basically see in very little light... upper spectrum IR is in the "heat" range that illuminates warmth and displays it in a much lighter picture basically making it much easier to disseminate living beings......... like a guy hiding in the bushes beside that house you are watching..... but getting past all that.
I bought a Bushnell
binocular nite vision. Model 26-0400. both eyepieces are adjustable as well as the "big end" which is adjustable for distance. They will focus down to about 10 ft. and are good inside a building when there is no lite.... this I found is another very good point... They seem to be good out to about 150 to 200 yds. and they have the IR circle on a separate button so you can look at low light or No light... you can flip off the IR if not needed. They also have slide away filter when used in daylight. They come with a nice case the thing about Bushnell is that I have found they stand behind their products pretty good. I sent a pair of binoculars back to them one time that I had dropped and broken and they repaired them and sent them back at no charge... just shipping...
It uses batteries... I use lithium for extended usage and it has NO other features like video or external plug ins for power... that is the only drawback but frankly I didn't really need that so they are fine for me.

... I knew I would get some feedback on this.... I agree Ruffin and Kathy and all the rest.... I had occasion to sit on a house all nite the other nite and the nite stuff was really nice.... my primary bail car is a 2000 VW Beetle and I use my wife's Chrysler Town and Country with handicapped plates and a scooter on the back for most of my surveillance stuff.
