I do not understand how the Mayor of DC, Fenty, can get on camera with a straight face and say that they are afraid of the crime that will be associated with homeowners now being allowed to have guns, when the city is always vying for #1 or #2 in murder per capital and has for 20 years or more.Scott

Bottom line is this is DC.... Where Mayor Barry was elected... that's right "elected" to 3 terms as mayor in spite of his cocaine problems and the total decline of his city. What does that tell you of his electorate and their values?

Here is a quote from David A. Clarke, the chairman of the City Council in Jan. 1990 FROM THE NY TIMES... now of course this was some time ago... but it addresses the ongoing problems in this... "the Nations Capital"... "''The most important thing I want to project to the people of Washington and across the nation is that this city is under control.'' Can you believe this?????????????????????

When you have the general electorate putting people in office based on issues that have nothing to do with improving the local system........ this is the result.

You know what people......... it may never get better....... only worse. I am so glad I live in rural America........... and so sorry that others have to live in the environment that exists in places like........... DC.

Anybody got answers?

The most frightening thing to me is that this is reflected at a federal level as well. Many of our lawmakers and regulators are some of the most crooked, misguided, and ignorant people in the nation, yet they are able to maintain the control they have at our expense. In my opinion, it is because we, as a nation, let them maintain the status quo. There are plenty of folks out there that are not directly effected by many of these topics such as gun control, drug control, and other social problems. Not only do they have no understanding of the issues, but they vote for and support the people out there that abuse their power, submit to special interest influence, and pursue these topics without real, tangible direction. To add to that, many of the rest of us passively allow them to continue with no effort on our part.

I am disenchanted, disappointed, and disgusted. And all I can do is be who I am in every moment. I have no more power than that. My only other option is to live somewhere that I can excercise self-protection and self-reliance.

I don't see the sun peeking through the clouds yet...
