Hey Guys,

I heard from two different reliable sources that the bounty hunting laws in NJ are about to change to that proposal they tried to enact a year or two ago and stopped - I hear it's back on track.

A PI friend of mine and another BEA friend of mine, both in NJ, are telling me that as of July 1, 2008, you need to be a licensed BEA with NJ State Police or a licensed NJ Bondsman.

I didn't believe the talk, so I asked for something in writing. One said he has the press release from the State and he is going to fax it to me when I get back into the office on Tuesday.

I could not find anything online. Maybe it's too new to be on there.

Anyone hear anything like this or is t just the rumor mill?

Rob, you beat me to the punch. I wasn't going to post this until I spoke to them personaly
this morning. I know that a couple of people have already been certified. I'll repost the specs
later.

Yak,
That is the same legislation that was enacted but the State police did not have a system to govern or train Bounty hunters as mandated by the legislation. I am correct? I remember calling the State AG's office and they were not informed at all, but that was either last year or the year before.

Stay safe up there...you get anything I have up there anyway :)

Hey Yak,

I cannot find any forms on the NJSP website. You know where to get these forms to apply?

I also have heard but I am not able to confirm that if you are a licensed bondsman and your appointed under the insurance company of the skips you are looking for, you do not need to be licensed as a bounty hunter. The state DOBI told me that bondsman are regulated through DOBI and we can get our skips. It is the unlicensed bondsman that need to be licensed as a bounty hunter through the state police in order to apprehend people. Any truth to this Yak?
