Politics aside I wonder if the city would allow me to put a unit in my back yard? This may be the next million dollar 'work at home industry' – you too can own your own prison. While the implications are indeed troublesome there is some humor in it too.

Actually John you have struck oil here ! The privatization of detention centers is not a new concept.

Why couldn't you buy 25-30 acres of land and pop one of these babies up ? Then charge the county/city a daily rate per inmate ?

Kind of like a bed n breakfast for inmates ? Then you institute some of Sheriff Joe's programs and it will pay for itself. You could subcontract the inmates out on highway projects, city services, landscaping, firefighting, whatever....
