Did anyone see Leland get totally nailed with pepper spray and then tackled on the Tuesday Oct. 5 episode? PRICELESS!

Many new people don't really seem to grasp the danger concept in its totality.

The work is fraught with potential danger, and only training and experience will keep a BEA safe in most cases.

Leland passed on his chance to perform a tactical withdrawl. He opted to force the agitator to save face instead of bailing out with the skip.

Reacting to name calling won't get a BEA paid.

Mr. Chapman got hit from behind, and Leland got thumped.

Irrepsective of the circumstances leading to this incident, it is my ardent wish that every BEA is full well capable of going home safe. While Leland shared cupability, I would never be entertained by the misfortunes of a BEA attacked while working a case. Bad things can happen to ANY one of us, and to suggest that being attacked is anything other than a learning experience is just asking for bad karma.

This simple fact, notwithstanding who, where or how, is that Leland is out there doing the job in the most verifiable format available--National TV.

Hadley, I agree with you on the DU DU issue. I will only say that he is getting way to much air time and print space. I wish we could ignore him, I am tired of hearing about him, and he occupies to much of everyones energy.

To stay on point, the fact is that someone characterized the Leland incident as "Priceless." Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I take this to mean that the term comes from the Mastercard commercials wherein "priceless" is meant to be a good thing.

We can all state our reasons for our positions concerning Mr. Chapman's activities, but to suggest that there is joy in a fellow BEA being attacked is something that I must take issue with.

I clearly pointed out that Leland bore blame in the incident and that is suitable for discussion, but to make a joke of or marginalize a BEA's misfortunes is hardly a topic for professional discussion, in my opinion.

Hgunner is right on target when he suggests a trickle effect that spills upon us all and then gives an example.

Ignoring a problem is unwise in my view. I concur with the notion that Mr. Chapman's antics are conceivably troublesome in long-term thinking, and this may be suitable for a new thread; however, this thread started out by calling the attack upon Leland "priceless," and it is this that I am speaking of.

REX I AGREE WITH YOU ON THE LELAND SITUATION-I EVEN LIKE THE KID-I ADMIRE HIS YOUTHFUL EXSUBERANCE -I LOVE HIS WORK ETHIC(AGAIN ONLY WHAT I CAN SEE FROM THE SHOW)
I EVEN ADMIRE DU DU FOR WHAT HE HAS MADE OF HIMSELF HERES THE KICKER DONT PEE ON MY BACK AND TELL ITS RAINING-DU DU JUST WILL NOT DO IT RIHGT AND DOES NOT SEEM TO BE ABLE TO TEACH HIS TEAM PROPER PROCEDURES IN EACH SHOW I SEE TACTICAL MISTAKES THAT GET PEOPLE HURT OR KILLED(I KNOW WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES BUT LEARN FROM THEM AND DO NOT REPEAT THEM) IN PLACES I WORK LELAND WOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD AND SO WOULD MOST OF DOGS CREW.
WHAT DU DU DOES IS PLAIN OLD AMATURE HOUR AND I AM SURE MOST PROS AGREE
DU DU AND LELAND BROKE A CARDINAL RULE OF TACTICS DO NOT GET CUT OFF- RETREAT IN AN ORGANIZED FASHION COVERING EACH OTHER AS YOU MAKE IT BACK TO THE VEHICLE OR COVERED POSITION-I BELIEVE THAT IS COVERED IN THE FIRST PAGE OF MOST TACTICAL DRILLS

To stay on point, I would have to agree with Rex and Haldey even though I refuse to watch the show. It is not "Priceless" to watch someone get into hot water regardless if you think they are a joke or not. If someone had gotten seriously hurt or killed while filming that show it could do more damage to the industry as a whole, even more so than what DU DU portrays the industry to be.

Hgunner,

I look forward to the sideaches brought about by your candid, pull-no-punches writing style that has caused me to have to clean up spewed coffee subsequent to a burst of laughter, but I'm getting off point.

I concur with your position that the Mr. Chapman's crew would be subject to horrendous incidents if they were to work certain areas on the Mainland.

For example, I will not work certain parts of Oakland California with anything less than bail enforcement agents hovering around platoon strength. I've repeatedly heard automatic weapons firing while working those mean streets, and even the cops don't go into certain areas with anything less than four, two officer units. People will come out and try to intimidate you in groups of 20 to 50 at all hours of darkness. Mr. Chapman and his crew could not behave the way they do in some of the places I work without getting hurt.

Storming a place may or may not be called for during exigent circumstances, but having to do so could be avoided by working during the latter part of the night in most cases. Recall that Mr. Chapman did not want to work at night, so that option was out.

If memory serves me correctly, they had their skip and were being badgered by a few people. Mr. Chapman told his crew to withdraw, but Leland opted to establish a fight zone with one of yellers. His behavior was that of grade school, and I hoped he learned his lesson.

My team withdraws under the cover of an agent in a leap frog fashion, just like you described, Hgunner. This happens whether or not there is any perceivable danger. We don't sit there at the arrest location and let the bail skip make phone calls or smoke a cigarette or converse with the family and/or friends of the skip, and we don't get into shouting matches. The bail skip can be fed and nicotined later if necessary.

That incident on national TV is a good training aide on how not to do things in the best case scenario; however, it can also serve to hurt the trade in the worst case scenario.
