Bail bondsman gets 10 year sentence in murder-for-hire plot
ST. LOUIS (AP) - A 67-year-old St. Charles bail bondsman is sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a murder-for-hire plot to kill a rival bondsman, U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway said.
Virgil Jackson was sentenced in federal court Thursday after pleading guilty in August to one felony count of murder.
In October 2005, Jackson arranged a meeting with an undercover federal agent posing as a hit man, then offered instructions on how to kill rival bondsman Gerald Cox. Hanaway said Jackson agreed to provide the gun and bullets.
Cox, a former state representative, was not hurt.
