Post subject: Is this for me?

Good evening. I have a question for the experieced professionals out there. I have been contemplating entering the field for a couple years now. I'm a former Marine and corections officer, I've researched this subject in depth over the years and would like to attend the N.I.B.E. I live in Chicago. My only concern would be being able to provide for my family.

Now my question:
Would I be wasting my time and money getting into this field living in chicago(being that bail eforcement is not allowed here)?

Very few people can sustain themselves, much less an entire family on income earned solely from BEA work.

Most of us maintain full time jobs, or diversify as pi's, collection agents, asset locators, civil process servers, body guards, etc.

Re: Chicago. The only advice I can give you there is to make contact with Scott Olson of the N.I.B.E and seek his advice.

Question: With your alleged military background, have you considered seeking employment contracts in the private sector for overseas work ?

From what I have heard from my GA and surety reps, bail nationwide is slow and has been slow for several months.

So if bail is down, recovery work may slow down also.

Plus add into the mix the real estate slide, many people may not be able to afford to bail out their love ones.

How ever, others on this forum have posted that they do some work in IL for out of state bail agents. Check with Scott and get his take on it.

BUT, you will probabaly not be able to support your family on recovery alone. Heck, we are going through a slow time for our bail bond operation right now.

I had to take my wifes Christmas presents back in order to pay the hired help this month!

That's not right!! The bail business slows down this time of year...not much you can do about it. I have a day job and do this on the side, but still...I like it when it's busy..

I agree with Angela . . . That's not right!!! Tony.
I was busy enough up until this year to maintain on the bail only . . . I also serve civil papers and even that is slow.
I figure it will pickup after the first of the year . . . serving papers wise anyways.

Well ladies,

I had to do something! I couldn't fire the kid, he's my wifes son. I couldn't fire the other guy, he's my wifes brother!

I knew things were slowing down so I got my Christmas present in August. A Bandit Model 90 Wood Chipper, with a 45 horsepower air cooled Wisconsin Engine, 9 inch intake, adjustable discharge chute, electric start and hyway towable trailer.

It chips those branches and small trees up so fast, I can't keep up with it.

I'll get her something next year.

Yea!

Actually I did get her a couple "useful" gifts. I just told her that I wasn't going to buy her anything.

So it will be a suprise when she does wake up Tuesday morning. I have to stay on her good side becuase next spring I need a bigger chain saw.

We however did not get the "hired" help anything. We instead bought gifts for the kids in juvenal hall.

I appreciate the input. As far as my "alleged" military experienced, I currently do security for the federal government. I make a pretty good living doing that but it lacks the excitement and adrenaline rush i use to get working in the prison.
