So, after a long day at my main job (Which I hope to quit soon), I sit down at my desk to run my nightly searches to see if anything new has popped up on my skips. As usual, nothing new. Maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow.... So I think to myself, "I should check out that new Garmin GPS I just bought". Now this thing is cool, looks just like a smartphone, and has a great interface. So I plug it into my work pc to update the map and lo' and behold! Damn thing is not compatible with my operating system, (Linux) Now I know what your thinking, "Why would you use/What the hell is Linux?". I use it because it make filing and skip-tracing a breeze. So alas, my super GPS is a super paperweight.

Very little is compatible with Linux...usually says "for Windows only" somewhere in the instruction book. ..did you try factory resetting it? If not you can try to restore it thru the Garmin website...if you registered it....I have one (its a nuvi) and that is the first thing I did...
You can easily reset any nüvi and return it to factory new condition. This process is sometimes called a factory restore because it deletes all custom POI and favorites that have been stored on the device. This has been confirmed to work on the nüvi 700, 800, 1200, 1300 and 1400-series models. •Power off the nüvi •Press and hold the bottom-right corner of the touchscreen •Power it on •A prompt will ask you “are you sure you want to delete all user data?” Choose wisely young jedi, there’s no undo ...(Jason O'Grady)
