New School/ Old School

I'm still relatively new to the business to be real old school. I think the last time I went out hunting was over a year ago with Randy. So, I'm am not one to be judging others on which tactics are better than the other.

Since I am kind of a chicken, I prefer low key and low impact as in no impacts on my body from any skips.

BUT, I can speak out when I see bail agents and bail recovery people do that hurts the ethical and professional people in the business.

I can honestly say as someone who is looking to get involved in the business, that I have absolutely no interest in the "New School" method of work. By "New School" I assume you are all referring to the tactical gear, kicking down doors, raiding homes sort of stuff.

I am not a thrill seeker at all. In fact I bought a motorcycle a few years back, I rode it a few months and then decided it was too scary, too dangerous, and just wasn't for me, haha.

When I see the videos on the internet of 8 guys raiding a house, tazers flying left and right, guns drawn, I think to myself "Well that doesn't seem safe". However, when I see someone like Rob Dick at work, staking out locations, gaining leads, skip tracing, I think to myself "Now THAT I would love to do".

Most of you old school folks know the story about the old bull and the young bull standing at the top of the hill looking down on the new heifers. Well I will be the bull walking down the hill, so that makes me ____/school….

Rob Dick and his partner/former partner Leonard Padilla are absolutely old school kool in my book.

In thinking about this, I am both. Old school in that we interview people, develop CI's, network with whomever possible to obtain information leading to our target. The biggest example is being able to infiltrate homeless in the woods, Irish Rovers, Romany Gypsy's, and organized crime families/clubs/gangs. New school is internet based, social networking sites, databases etc. and nowadays, we need a little of both, but ALL low impact!

Oh absolutely. In fact, when I first saw their National Geographic special about 8 years ago is when I first got interested in the industry.

I will say Mr. Padilla can be quite arrogant, but it adds to his character, haha.

Dunno which the way I work would be considered, old or new school.
I check the obvious social networking websites.
Run background checks.
Notation of past charges and publicly recorded behaviour with police.
It's a small world, so I talk to personal acquaintances of several sorts;

bartenders, (at popular bars, and bars in near the skips given residence)

bangers, (gangland grapevine, who just got out of jail, who is up on new charges, and who is out on bail are common topics) (acquaintances, and by no means affiliates)

a couple small time dealers, (successful small time dealers tend to know how to network)

club district regulars, (small club district, regulars tend to know the other regulars, by sight at the least)

etc.


A coworker from my previous full-time job told me his girlfriend worked at a sports bar in a specific city, I showed him a picture of a skip from that area (who listed that bar as her employer) on my cell phone, and asked if he had ever seen her, turned out he had seen her lots of her times. He gave me the hours she worked.. The skip was one of his girlfriend's drinking buddies.

At the same time, I also found the favorite bar of another skip, who kept posting on a particular website when he was going to that bar.

I don't know if I work new school, or old school, I just find a way to get the job done.
