I won't get into details, but I was wondering the following:

Legality of using spit shields on skips when transporting?

If not going to use, how would YOU handle a skip who spits and attempts to force vomit?

Just curious....

I had a guy spiting on us... I ripped off his shirt and wrapped it around his head.. during the transport he started to kick out the side window.. he met the X-26 TASER (DRY STUN) ... then when we arrived at the jail we walked him all the way into the jail with his head still wrapped in his shirt.. I would love to carry spit hoods in the future.. but good thing we used his shirt .. cause he missed kicking out the window by inches cause he could not see..

Duct tape, pillow cases, construction dust masks (buy in bulk at any major construction retailer...cheap, disposable), etc. all work wonders.

As for kicking, what leg shackles are for. I run 1 set from the handcuffs to the center of the leg shackles. Pretty much solves that problem.

pillow case I stole from my wife (don't tell her Bill) and an old long sleeve shirt in case of oozing infected drug addicts with needle sores.

An old laundry bag/net with a drawstring works pretty good. First started out with a pillowcase thought, but the bag allows them to get fresh air, plus its bright red to identify------in the off chance they escape custody.

Flymedia: Around here, it would be worse for them to escape and run with a white hood on their head, they wouldn't last 2 feet and would be begging to let them back n the truck!

Rich: Care to expand? Seems like you had a fun one! How did you handle it? As to the legality question, you would meet the same standard of care and custody that law enforcement would do when transporting a prisoner.

I had one guy who ended up with a bloody lip after a short wrestling match while he was getting cuffed, He spit all over the back seat of my explorer. I just pulled his T-shirt over his head (Hockey Fight Style) and he rode the next six hours that way back to Wilmington, DE. Since then I have carried dust masks, a suggestion by the De State Police , they also advised me not to use a pillow case or duct tape.
