I'm not a member and I should probalby keep my nose out of this (though I don't really have anything better to do right now LOL) so this is the email I just sent to PBUS.

letter quote:

Greetings,

I am a former police officer and current Licensed Bail Recovery Agent and Private Investigator (License numbers in signature line).

I recently heard that Mr. Chapman would be speaking at some type of function for your organization. While I have nothing against Mr. Chapman it appears he and his entourage is somewhat ignorant of the laws in various states. Perhaps while he is speaking for you he can be educated on the basic legal requirements of various states (which I am pleased that you are well aware of from what I have read on your site).

Recently it was brought up that Mr. Chapman was contemplating on coming into Indiana to assist in the locating of a criminal who was harassing a family in this state.

Mr. Chapman was advised through 'Alice Smith' that should he do so it is recommended that he obtain the proper licensing. Her reply was as follows:

Subject: Gary Indiana - Melvin Keeling - Indiana Licensing Requirements

Greetings,

It has been made known that you may be coming into Indiana in an attempt to assist locating a Melvin Keeling who was last seen in Gary Indiana.

If this is true please be advised of the following criteria to act as an out of state private investigator in the State of Indiana:

Please note that an Indiana Recovery License is also required if you will be doing any recoveries of individuals who have skipped bail and are located in the State of Indiana.

This information should help you obtain the proper licensing for the State of Indiana.

http://www.in.gov/pla/bandc/detective/
http://www.in.gov/idoi/bailbond/

-----------

As you are well aware, our industry is under constant attack by those individuals and agencies who are ignorant of both the laws and the benefit trained and professional bondsmen and recovery agents are to both the community and law enforcement. That being said it is the Responsibility and Duty of all said Trained and Professional Bondsmen, Recovery Agents, and their respective organizations to "police our own".

You can see by 'Ms. Smith's' reply regarding licensing clearly demonstrates both their disturbing lack of knowledge in the laws governing their profession as well as their reluctance in learning those laws and complying with them. No doubt this is due to their "celebrity status" and disregard for the law is a common trend among "celebrities", especially when reinforced by their adoring public.

In any case, I hope his presentation serves it's purpose for your organization and perhaps you can educate him on the various laws pertaining to this profession.

PBUS was co-founded by the late Celes King III who always pushed for innovation and positive change in the industry. Mr King also belived that the organization was to be formed and driven by the purpose of professionalizing the industry through positive legislation and changes in the way bondsmen and women conducted business. Having Mr Chapman as a spokeperson for the industry with the invitation of PBUS is negative and needs to be spoken against by by persons in the industry revoking their membership in PBUS and forming another national organization that has the interest of the bail bonsman/women in mind and not just the surety. I am sure that if Mr King were alive that this would be quashed instantly. Unfortunaely the PBUS will come to regret their decision only if actual members do not participate.

It's warming to see the unity and support we have on this forum. However, PBUS doesn't give one strand of concern for the very BEA's that consistently save their members millions of dollars a year in recovered bail forfeitures. They never have cared and I don't see where they ever will care. We are viewed as a necessary evil and, as such, we have no voice with PBUS. Case in point: the PBUS invitation to Mr. Chapman to speak at their convention. That invitation speaks volumes for what PBUS thinks of the real BEA's. Mr. Chapman has done almost as much to hurt the industry with his scripted comedy show as the bandits did in the 1997 killings in Arizona.

I suggest to all BEA's throughout these United States to request of their bail agents (and any bail agents they know) to leave PBUS if they are a member. A dwindling membership will eventually choke PBUS from the horizon.

PBUS officials should have their heads in shame!

Guys!! PBUS is having Chapman so he could talk about the show on A&E, how he does what he do on the show, not to talk about how we/us as BEAS suppose to do our business.

Robert this was said by better people than me--du-du is the exact opposite of what a true pro bea is all about--instead of having du-du speak about his clown act --true pro beas should be there speaking about important issues such as public perception of beas and how to get the true image of a pro bea out to the general public

Okay, Hadley, your Point is well taken and understood, Chapman is being used as you know because of his notority on TV, maybe, just maybe we should ask PBUS if we could have a crak at the some of their meeting to tell what it is really like out there, which i think is being done on this forum.

I am both ashamed and PROUD of the fact that I have watched "D.C.'s" (circus side) show.

Ashamed to publicly admit it... But PROUD of the fact that I have the intestinal fortitude to watch CRAP like that !!!

Any "MAN" who turns tail and runs while his PARTNER... let alone his SON... is being assaulted by someone during a rearrest should be BLACKBALLED from this industry. (My opinion... but I know MANY "Average Joe's" (Non-BEA/FRA) who agree!)

Any "MAN" who would repeatedly (and KNOWINGLY) give away industry trade "secrets" should be BLACKBALLED from that industry.

I don't KNOW if I want the PBUS to "Come Around". I think by them using "D.C." as a P.R. front"man", the PBUS's name will be tarnished... and what professional wants to have "professional" associations around when their tarnished reputation represents an entire industry.

That's all... for now.

So there is no REAL danger in tracking and re-arresting a bail skip who has no intention of going to jail and would rather kill you than be re-incarcerated to face his charges?

LOL.

The only other REAL danger in being a "Bounty Hunter" as opposed to a "Bail Enforcement Agent" is that you DON'T have a license and are usually operating in another country or state illegally.

After reviewing your other posts, I am thinking that you are basically trying to drum up attention to you and your website.

Isn't the hollywood saying: there is no such thing as bad publicity (or: bad publicity is better than no publicity).

The bad part of your statements is that you might encourage some new people and "juveniles" who visit this site to go out and do crazy things and get themselves killed trying to be "real bounty hunters" without first going through the training and licensing requirements of their individual jurisdictions.
