Hadley,
You are 100% correct as to auto and pump action, all autos use exhust gas to chamber the next round.

The first shot would be no problem Max, it's the follow ups that may or may NOT work LOL.
Kind of like I was told recently that it was a bad idea to use steel cased ammo in my AR15 but that it was ok in the M16s. I asked how many rounds it would take to damage the Ar and was told it could be anywhere from one to an unknown amount. A fellow had gone into the gun shop after firing only one round and it broke the extractor. Then again there are people who use steel cases in their ARs with no problems.

STEEL CASED AMMO IS NOT A PROBLEM BY ITSELF--THERE IS A MANUFACTOR FROM RUSSIA THAT USED TO PUT A LAQUER COATING ON THEIR ROUNDS TO MAKE THEM WATER PROOF.AFTER FIRING SOME ROUNDS THE RIFLES CHAMBER GOT HOT AND THE LAQUER WOULD MELT ONTO THE CHAMBERS WALLS-SOMETIMES ACTING LIKE A GLUE CAUSING THE CASE TO STICK IN THE CHAMBER--WITH THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES THE EXTRACTOR WOULD BREAK TRYING TO REMOVE THE STUCK CASE OR THE ROUND WOULD JAM IN THE CHAMBER-i BELIEVE THAT MANUFACTERER NO LONGERS USES LAQUER-THEY NOW USE A POLYAMER COATING THAT ACTS LIKE A LUBRICANT AND AIDS IN FUNCTIONING---I AM A AMATURE GUNSMITH AND DID SMALL ARMS TESTING AND CONSULTING FOR PD YEARS AGO
THERE NOW IS A 5.56 ROUND AVAIABLE WITH A PLASTIC CASE BONDED TO A BRASS BRASS HEAD--MONTHS AGO I TESTED ABOUT 5000 ROUNDS IN A COLT M4 M16 AND A BUSHMASTER M4 AR-15 AND A DPMS M4 AR-15 ( THE COLT M4 WAS SELECT FIRE -FULL AUTO, 3 ROUND BURST, AND SEMI AUTO) THE REST WERE ALL SEMI AUTO ONLY--OUT OF 5 THOUSAND ROUNDS I HAD APPROX 100 CASE HEAD SEPERATIONS--SO AS YOU CAN IMAGINE I DO NOT USE THAT AMMO ANY LONGER--I USE EITHER FEDERAL OR WINCHESTER 55 GRAIN BOATTAIL FMJ FOR LONG RANGE AND 55 GRAIN FRANGIBLE FOR TACTICAL ENTRY--THE 55 GRAIN FMJ AMMO WILL GO THRU MOST BULLET RESISTANT VESTS AND WALLS AND CARS ETC--SO BE CAREFUL WITH THAT ROUND IN URBAN AREAS REMEBER OVER PENETRATION CAN CAUSE INNOCENT PEOPLE INJURY OR WORSE

Thanks for the info Hadley...
I had asked the guy at the gun store for some 5.56 and had asked about the steel cased ammo (I had a box of Wolf's). At that point the fellow told me about the dangers of steel cases. He couldn't tell me how it was breaking the extractor and I was somewhat curious as to how it would do that.
Because he didn't have any explanation as to how it was happening I was somewhat unsure if he was telling me the truth or if he was just trying to sell me different ammo LOL.

I would be worrying about WHAT the individual(s) is/are GOING TO DO with the gun. THINGS can be replaced, a LIFE cannot. That is why I keep ALL of my weapons put away when not needed.
Why tempt fate?

lol.."Why tempt fate ?"...ALL of us tempt fate every single second of every single day....driving, walking, executing our entries, etc..The weapon was stolen to serve a higher purpose...all things are in God's hands...even though I may not know the why of it...I simply trust all things to Him.

LOL?!
Ruffin, I do not laugh at you Nor do I laugh at putting something in God's hands?
I on the other hand do not want to answer to God for putting a gun in an idiots hands.
I value my life as well as anothers.
That is why God gave us a brain, to be able to reason and hopefully make wise decisions.
Higher purpose? I don't think that ANYONE that has had a family member or close friend murdered because someone did not keep their weapon safe has called it "serving a Higher Purpose".
You would not leave something dangerous down for a baby or someone that is mentally challanged to put in their mouth OR would that also be considered "all things are in God's hands? and serving a Higher Purpose"
Thankfully I do not work with any FIs

You make it sound like it was laying out in the open or something..it wasn't...it was SECURED INSIDE THE BED OF MY TRUCK. My camper shell has/had limo tinted tempured safety glass windows on it, with dual locking handles, which were locked at the time.
There were numerous other items of value that were in the back of the truck at the time which were not stolen. The police and I both think that this is a target-specific crime. This was someone who knows me, knew it was back there, smashed the window, and grabbed it. I was not irresponsible nor careless.
Funny thing too...I don't see you attacking HGUNNER for allowing his weapon to be stolen. That's why I stated "It happens to the best of Us".
