I agree with you there Jay. When the military starts cutting back man power and reducing recruitment, things are bad. I have been attempting to apply my experience, knowledge, and education into Government jobs....maybe even a contract or two. Nothing. A new, professional bonding company would be great for this area....and I work cheap . It might even run off some of the questionable companies that never write bonds and never come to thier offices. It could also help the county because this new company could actually pay forfietures (if there were any) instead of leaving the county holding the bag. I was just told by the Bonding Capt "If all these bondsmen came in and paid us half of what this county is owed, we could build a County Prison.....yeah, we are talking millions upon millions." Yet they all are still allowed to stay in business. I have never understood that. Anyway, I digress; If any of you "big dogs" are interested in the South of Atlanta, Mid Georgia area, I will do all I can to help get it up and running.

There are 2 more options for surviving the slow times.

1) Marry someone rich.

2) Marry someone with a good paying job that can be your sugar daddy or sugar momma, like I did.

Ok, seriously (though I was serious about #2) if you love the job and are psssionate about it, you will find a way to get through the tough times.

Sometimes it is just luck.

I waited up all last night working on a $55,000 bond. Had the whole 10% in my hands only needed the jail to finish the booking.

Finally @ 8:00am this morning the jail informed me that they placed a ICE hold on the defendant. Now I knew he was "undocumented" but he owned, yes owned 2 houses. So I said sure, I'll bail him.

Anyway after giving back the $5,500 I wasn't feeing too happy. Ten minutes later a couple guys walked in plopped down $1,000 to bail out a girlfirend that got drunk at a casino and then kicked out the rear window of the police car on the way to jail.

Its a solid bond.

So I got something at least for being up for 28 hours straight.

Yes. Well, mostly. County lines in Atlanta are all over the place. The majority of Atlanta-Fulton is south. (Added after some research) Fulton is right in the middle of the Metro area. It is directly north of me. I could hit Fulton County by driving north for about 15 minutes. I hope this answered your question.

Although I operate out of a southern area, most of the work takes me to the north side. I have no problem with driving, is what I am trying to say. Just in Georgia, I have worked as far north as Dillard and Hiawassee. I have worked as far south as Bainbridge and Quitman. With this in mind, nearly all my county approvals are Northern (Dekalb, Gwinnett, Cobb, Rockdale, Cherokee). I have not had a call for a Fulton approval in about three years so I do not spend the money on it. The only ones outside of these are Coweta (that is where my office is), Clayton, Clarke-Athens, and Fayette. I have only been aproved for these to keep "particular" clients/people happy. Not alot of work coming from these four but it is worth impressing the contacts I have there.

PS: I will also add that approvals are not a big deal for me. A few dollars (up to $100 depending on the county), fingerprinting, application, and wait for the background check. I have never been denied a county approval, military clearance, or GAPB certification. It only takes several weeks.....and the money and I will be approved.

On keeping multiple lines of incoming income potential... may be a silly question but I heard something about someone having a conflict and getting in trouble with it before but I cant remember the details of what I heard.. (getting old I guess)


Question: Is there any conflict in having a Real Estate license and being a Realtor at the same time as writing bail bonds (in CA)?? Anyone here heard or know of any potential conflicts to watch out for??? The only thing I can think of would have to do with taking someones property...??? But if legally that should not be a conflict.. right?? wrong??

This is not a professional answer.....an answer from experience, but I do not see it being a conflict. I believe these to be two seperate industries and I would have to stretch to apply them to one another. I know that many Bondsmen around here own alot of rental property. Not the same as being a realtor but ..... same difference, I believe.

Only conflict that I can see would be relation between anything connected to the law or the judicial system that is directly connected... ie: attorney, law enforcement, court attachment of any kind like clerk or anyone associated with the judicial system... the attorney connection would only be if you were to bond and represent the same client... that would be a conflict but an attorney can own a bonding company... my attorney happens to be my general agent also, so I know that is ok... he just can't write bail, but he can own the company.

I know of a former magistrate that had a relative that was a bondsman, I also know of a bondsman that is dating a deputy sheriff and in fact... my grandson is a deputy sheriff but as long as the two do not live together I think it is ok... in other words... married to or living with or under the same roof...

Real estate... unless you own, as a real estate agent, a private facility that is directly related to the system... like a private correctional facility... as occurs here in Virginia at times... you are probably ok...

I think if you are just realistic and use your head in determining proper relationships... that's all it's about..

In dealing with property, if you are notarizing the deed of trust you are using as collateral and you are naming yourself as the assignee or trustee, the person receiving the property in the event of the default, that would be a conflict.

Your can notarize the DOT if you name the surety company as the trustee. Then the "company" is the beneficiary, not you. So there there is no conflict there.

The only thing I know of for sure in California, is you can not have a bail agents license and a PPO. You can have a guard card and work security, you just can't be the security contract provider.
