ive been hearing a lot from people that the "guard card" firearm permit isnt valid in ca for bail enforcement.. by boss says BS... something about a law that had a "sunset" after jan 2010.. pretty sure my boos knows what hes talking about.. just curious

I will defer to the CA agents but what your boss is referring to is the requirement of PC1299 compliance was sunset at the last legislative session. This means that there are no longer any requirements for certifications for fugitive recovery in CA. However, do not be a fool, the training, which is still being offered, may save your life. It is also a far stronger defense to legal actions taken on your part that you have been trained, if not to the former standards. You need to obtain training from a recognized professional in CA if that is where you intend to operate. I would be leery of a boss that is not concerned with training or one that allows you to play fast and loose with your training. The exposed gun card has no use as a BEA. It only applies when working for a PPO as a uniformed security guard with a badge and a patch on each shoulder identifying you as such. As a BEA in California, you will be carrying your firearm in accordance with PC 12031(k) Quote: (k) Nothing in this section is intended to preclude the carrying
of a loaded firearm by any person while engaged in the act of making
or attempting to make a lawful arrest.

Demian,
Haven't there also been issues with how far you are from your target location before you strap your weapon on? My understanding is that it is purposely vague and that can be to your peril.

As Demian stated, your "guard card" exposed firearms permit is not valid in fugitive recovery work here in CA. This was noted in a letter from the California Attorney General a few years ago. And as Scott said, the laws pertaining to when you can strap on your weapon prior to apprehension are quite vague. When making my notice to law enforcement (per the old PC1299 laws), I always advise them how many of us are there, that we are armed and a description of the clothes we are wearing. When carrying exposed, I never put on my weapon until I am in the near vicinity of the area we are looking. If I am carrying concealed (must have CA state issued CCW), I also notify law enforcement that I am doing so.
