I think that's great that you notified them! We notified our local PD when we finished up our training. They didn't really seem to care, which is fine, but I wanted them to be aware of what we do if they had any concerns. I get the feeling that there is not a whole lot of LE that like what we do, but all the same I think it's important to cooperate and be respectful so they don't make the job harder.

I have to ask this, and I'm sure it is in a thread that I haven't read yet :oops: , but we have ran into a couple bond companies that do not want you to carry even if you have your concealed carry license. I understand the liability completely! But I have to ask...is this quite common?

It has been my experience that when hiring a team, liability is paramount. You are authorizing a pickup by an agency that is basically not under your control. You have to trust who you hire... I double and triple check licenses and experience and for the most part I have only a couple of people that I trust doing this job. There are so, so many wanna bees in this business that I am extremely gun shy on this issue (no pun intended). I have several family members that are licensed bondsmen and we do most of our own pickups. On the occasion that we go outside to hire BEA's, we are extremely wary of everyone we talk to and it is based solely on reputation, experience and time in service.

Liability is the bottom line and when we hire someone, the buck will stop with us, not just the BEA's.

I think that it's very smart and I completely understand the concept. I would do the same thing. However, we did all the training for fugitive recovery first, hoping that we could work for a bonds company so we could get some insight for when we do get our bonding license. Honestly, I hate to even mention that to any bondman because I do not want them to think we are trying to take away from them. This is a hard business and it takes a long time to get established (from my observation and I could be wrong). But while we are trying to get our name out there, I most definately don't want to step on anyone's toes and I try to be super respectful towards anyone and hope that pays off in the long run.

I took alot of time and thought about the pros and cons of this career before we even came close to doing it and I think it's what we would be successful at (eventually - we're doing the waiting game now - my favorite :roll: :P ). And the women in this business I think are extremely exceptional at what they do (YES, YOU MEN TOO!). I know I am by no means Domino Harvey or that other guy, but I am not trying to be. I have my own flare! LMAO :lol: JUST KIDDING!

Well, just in your posts I detect the thought process in your approach to this business.

I will tell you that there is a tremendous amount of jealousy and frankly just plain underhanded, back stabbing that goes on in the ranks of both BEA and Bondsmen... that is not to say there are not very professional, honest, hard working individuals out there that strive to do it right. What I am saying is beware the many pitfalls of this business. You will face the above mentioned individuals both in the courts system, the LE system and our own systems... it only takes a few to ruin the game and there are many out there that try and take short cuts to an end.

The folks on this site are quick to catch the ones of which I talk. If you go back through the many posts over the years you will quickly see what I am talking about.

There are however, a very close nit group of professionals that will stick together and work together and help each other accomplish. They also quickly weed out the bad seeds because there will always be those that seek to undermine and take short cuts... my only advise here is to be extremely wary of who you choose to do business with... vigilance and time spent in research are their own reward and will save you much heartache...

Having said all this....... good luck, I think you will be fine. Call on us here and we will strive to give you good advise. I am only an old small town, country bondsman and many times my attempts at humor tend to get a bit over the top, I fear... but there are many big time BEA and bond people that can steer you in the right direction. Hang in there and learn on a daily basis. Your reputation wil say it all, work toward constant improvement on that and you will go far.

Thank you speezack for all of your advice! You are truly helping alot! I hope in the long run we are going to be most reputable for being honest and hard working. I intend on doing all my research before I get my heart set on anything. First thing I happened to learn in my training, was that if I ever in my wildest dreams imagined this job to be glamorous, I was quite naive. (hence the 5 day a week tactical, assualt, cc, defensive training - and my least fav, getting sprayed with my own mace - NASTY) We handpicked our own trainer...a loyal and trustworthy 65 yr old Vietnam vet who had no quams about putting me on my a** to show us our mistakes.

As far as little country town... :lol: yeah we are there with a population of probably less than 1,000. We however live between to larger cities and that could be at an advantage ( I hope). I think you sound like an exceptional bondsman and hardworking to make the FRN a great resource. No.....not kissing up :lol: , just being frank.

With all that being said, in your honest professional opinion, while we are doing our credentials to send out to bonds businesses, is it better to mail your file of credentials to the bonds companies in the farther counties, or still hand deliver them? I know that there is probably a thread, I need to research, that has the answer to my question. I just thought maybe you had an opinion on this matter?

We usually do notify local LE on some occasions though we have waited untill seeing our fugitive.Which we have now recently learned from that mistake!! In Dalton,Ga. we spent all day searching for our fugitive even called the courthouse to see if they had a current address.Still did not call LE though,we finally narrow down were our fugitive lives and sit and wait on him to come home.Of course it is night time by now so we figure we are well hidden.We stop and ask a neighbor if we can park in their driveway which they happily agree to allowing us.Not 10 minutes of being there we see headlights going slowly by down on the road which was about 20 yards away,all of a sudden we see brake lights and they turned up the long driveway.At first we thought it was our fugitive turning into his house but soon noticed the distinct headlight pattern!!Then a second car pulls in and races up to us.Sheriff gets out and says "do you live here?"and "show us your hands"Meanwhile in my haste to get my credentials out i spill a coke onto my lap and recieve a good chill to my rear section!! while we were being verified we see another set of lights pull into the driveway of our fugitive,I ask the deputy if that was another one of his guys and he says no.We excitedly said thats our guy we need to grab him,Deputy says just drive around my car and do your thing.Needless to say we caught our fugitive but we were lucky he was not skiddish because he definately would have ran with 2 patrol cars parked behind his house with their lights running.
I would have been pretty upset if after all our work and time spent was wasted due to one careless mistake,so our mistake can be someone elses gain as long as they learn from it.We sure have!!
