RCrew wrote: And as a sidenote to this...most people are not aware that if you have an out-of-state skip hiding here in California, per Penal Code 847.5, the bail agent or recovery person must appear before a magistrate or judge and obtain a signed court petition on behalf of the surety or bail agent allowing the re-arrest of the skip and transportaion to the original place of bail. This must all be done before they pick up their subject.I am fully aware that the majority of recovery persons do not comply with this law but it is the law!! I might add to this............ Absolutely true... we brought a skip back from CA with a recovery agent out of CA... the first one I contacted wanted to charge an extra $250 to get that exact form and said it might take 2 weeks... but the guy we contracted got the form signed and had the skip in custody in 12 hours, had him legally on a plane and delivered him to us in VA within 24 hours after the contract was signed... so the process is not always as difficult and if you get the right RA... it can be a lot less painful and might save you some money... so my advise to anyone pulling one of of CA... do your homework and check out the agent before you contract... there are differences and just because someone is well known and talks a good line... does not necessarily mean he/she is the best.... there is still a lot of BS at the top of our business... I found that out also.............. thanks Randall... good info.

I don't think it has ever taken me more than 90 minutes to appear and obtain the signed petition. I have NO idea why anyone would think it would take 2 weeks!! Unless they weren't sure what they were doing.

Unless they weren't sure what they were doing. Randall, that is absolutely what I, and my daughter were told via phone... "would cost as much as $250 and require that he drive 2 hours to get the form signed and it might take 2 weeks if the judge was difficult to approach".... ... the only thing I could think of is that he had to go to the jurisdiction that the skip was in to get the correct form... if that is true then maybe that was what the extra $250 was for.... not sure about that.... but the 2 weeks was way out of line, I thought... ...and you would be very surprised who that particular agent was.... now, no one ask me cause I ain't divulging the name... but this person is well known in CA... and I have nothing further to say about that.

As far as I know Kentucky is still a no fly zone for Recovery Agents. I have noticed (in Georgia) that some of my skips have headed to KY mainly because they know I can't come get them. I had a skip with a high bond take off to KY last year. He told his parents that he went there because he knew the bonding company could not come get him. I contacted the attorney general of KY. I was told that if I removed him from Ky I would be arrested and charged with kidnapping. The A.G. told me that the skip would most definately bring this up as cause for his case to get dismissed. Soooo, I made friends with the Sheriff of Knott County (very nice gentleman) who worked with me. I coordinated the arrest by the Ky Sheriff, guaranteed the extradition by our Sheriff's Dept., and faxed all warrant info to Ky. The Sheriff called me back 30 minutes later. He said the skip was in custody. Come to find out, the skip was living in a hotel/apartment across the street from the jail. The Sheriff looked out his window and saw the skip smoking a cigarette in front of his building. I guess the moral of this story is.......there's more than one way to skin a cat. I may not be allowed in Kentucky for an arrest, but with a little effort and friend making, it can get done. I made a couple of good friends and contacts in a state where we are not allowed. I even got a job offer on the Sheriff's fugitive squad if I wanted to move to Kentucky !!!!
