I carry a handgun on all arrests. It is only there as a final option to protect myself and partner only. If thing go to *^&% I carry pepper, baton, tazer and the most effective weapon my brain. I do keep my gun in the car with me in a full duty belt as i do recovery and bail as a side job. I never know when I may need to go out right after work. Its sad but CCWs in my county are almost unheard of. I have worked for the county for 23 years, have a full POST acad behind me and yet was still denied.
My gun is ONLY for defense. Please dont take anything from the TV shows they may be fun to watch for entertainment butso far from real life.

Just to add some food for thought:

I heard once that when you enter your apprhension with a weapon drawn, you are entering one handed (in other words, your handicapping yourself). I always carry (made easier by the newest laws in Georgia) however I have only drawn on a SIQ once....and thats because he was attempting to open a gun closet. In fact, I have never deployed OC Spray, ASP, or Taser. So that is one drawn gun and no other devices used (aside from my mind and hands), yet I have still been able to make a "few" ( :D ) apprehensions .... pretty good.

I like this Matt. He is asking the right questions. Great job.

I dont go anywhere unarmed, working or not. Except, of course, courthouses, ect... I dont pay much attention to the idiot signs that tell me I cant carry. Concealed means concealed and if asked to leave, I will. I dont spend money with business's that have idiot signs to begin with, unless I dont have a choice.

We have no special priveliges when it comes to carrying. So, you are nothing more than a private citizen, working or not. There are alot of things to consider before you unholster your weapon. And, just like my daddy told me when I was a little guy hunting squirrels. Dont point a gun at anything you are not prepared to destroy. That holds true now as well.

Just a sidenote.

Besides me carrying, my mother is an appraiser. She works alone looking at empty houses, many of them rural. She got her ccw and I feel much safer knowing she has her little friend in her purse.

My wife works at a mall. In light of all the mall shootings lately, I feel much safer with her little friend on her as well. And, its not to be a hero and try to stop the shooter. But should the shooter come to her hiding spot, I would hope he gets whats coming to him instead of my wife being a victim.... Not to mention the walking to and from work in the parking lot....

Since you are not afforded any special rights being a BEA would you share some of your personal feelings and experiences regarding your use of firearms during your recovery experiences?

I am more or less trying to find out from your personal experiences do you tend to take your gun everywhere with you????? Like places a normal civilian wouldn't? Maybe lets say a mall ?

I think that some BEA's would find it difficult to leave the firearm in the car if you saw your mark walk in somewhere where you generally couldn't take it .

I know in the state of Missouri if you have a CCW you can carry your firearm anywhere except on a bus with out being charged with a felony however if you are discovered to have a gun in a Mall the most they could do is ask you to leave at which that point if you don't then you could be charged with trespassing.

And knowing that would leave me to believe that most BEA's would carry their weapon concealed on there body into a public building.

Also I was watching the show "America's Hardest Bounty Hunters" is it typical practice to approach fugitives with guns drawn as seen on that show seeing how a regular civilian cannot do that?

Thanks for your anwsers and advice............(I tried the search function however I thought this might require a more detailed anwser then I could find )
