Has anyone heard of Doug hannan Recovery? They are located in pittsburgh,Pa. And when you call the Phone number listed in the directory a man answered, and says he has never heard of them before. Can anyone help me contact them?

Thomas,

Some of the states in the directory have not been updated with new/correct information. I think that PA is one that has not been updated yet. If you called the number and it wasn't correct, then he must of gone out of business. Some people think this type of business is easy to get into, but the fact is that isn't. If you are just starting out, don't quit your full time job until you get business that's going to support you and pay the bills.

even then, don't quit your day job.
As Kathy stated in a similar post...multiple revenue streams!

Don't think that getting a few files is reason to quit that day job. I, along with many, have done that only to hit a "slow period" and find that we needed to go back out to find somthing else that will put food on the table. When you get an abundance of cases, It is actually a good time to branch into other streams, as Scott said. Having 20 files come in over a one month period but then not having any over the next 2 or 3 is not a dependable living. It has been said many times, but this truely is a feast or famine industry....and when the famine hits, it can hit hard. So don't depend on the feast, only. It usually isn't around long.

What good advice................. I have a very good friend that was in the middle 6 figures for several years... (that's $400,000+-)... last year he made less than $100,000 gross.... and he still has full page ads in a number of big city books that are costing him several grand a month each... that is when it starts getting reaaaaaalllllllllllll tough...along with the big house payment and the Benz in the 3 car garage.... it can happen.... trust me......... stay realistic.... and salt the money away if and when you make it.......... live tight...

Living below your means "for a rainy day"....that’s the ticket. I have never been one to impulse buy or to feed into instant gratification, this business has strengthened that. It only takes one large paying case and then one slow month to blow a checking account. Just some general advise (you can choose how your money is best spent, however...), I tend to find places to invest money when it is coming in by the bushels. I make sure that I only place it, or use it, in places where I can pull from, without penalties. For instance, at this time I have a CD that I can add to, as I see fit and pull from, when the need arises. This CD is paying out $1200 per month, which I know isn't going to make me rich, but it helps. If I add no money to this, I can continue to receive $1200 over the next 7 years. So this CD, along with any other investments, stashes, and work that comes in (even if it is very little) sustains us.....then when everything picks up, we have more to invest and we can catch up on the "house upgrades, clothes, auto maintenance, ect.". This is the way I do things, to keep my sanity; so needless to say, it’s nothing more than a suggestion and opinion.

All I asked was if anyone had heard of him before. I have been running a large sporting goods company for several years so i also know what it can be like. I am just trying to see if there is anyone else in my area of opperation that i may work with.

Mr. Duncan,

1 thing to please understand and consider here regarding potential replies to posts. Often times you will recieve more information than you originally asked for, as the respondents have different perceptions of what you are asking for or we are anticipating different scenarios you may find yourself in so sometimes we disseminate far more than you possibly needed or wanted to know.

Also, we have no way of knowing what your level of experience is or various training you may have already recieved. In your mind, you believe you are not a "rookie" and therefore should not be treated like one...however, to us, this is exactly what you are until we get to know you and learn differently.

No offense is intended, nor should you feel insulted if you get more advice than you feel you deserve. We are only trying to help.
