Why Seek Help...

I don't understand why people ask for help and then question it to death when they get it....."why this ?", "why that ?..",

why, why, why,..how, how, how...etc.

If you aren't going to simply heed the advice you are given, then why even ask for the help to begin with ? Why waste other's valuable time ?

Just simply take the advice you are given, act upon it without question, and then pursue your quarry. How hard is this ?

Different people do things differently. What works for you may not work for me. It helps to get varied opinions, methods, and ideas. A person can then assimilate the information into something that works for them. It is human nature to ask why about anything. Just because we know what we're doing and it works for us does not mean that it will always work for another, or can be done in their state. I can advise in general terms, but I always defer to someone in the state to know what can and cannot be done there. This also applies to specific situations.

If I had blindly followed instructions from some bondsmen we have worked with, I could be in jail, or at the very least out of business. It didn't matter whether the chances of getting caught were minimal, I knew it was illegal.

Being asked for help is an honor whether the advice is used or not. The fact that the person is thinking for themselves enough to ask additional questions, even "why" shows initiative. I know that I did lots of research and have learned tremendous info from many of you. I may have not always agreed with everything you said, or followed the advice when I disagreed or knew that it wasn't legal here, but I learned enough from the discussions that I was able to take the information and formulate a plan that worked for me. Never discourage independant thinking. That is what makes us all who we are.

"Different Strokes for Different Folks" I agree that everyone is different, that includes our learning curves, what is easy for me may be difficult for someone else. I can understand not understanding something and asking for clarification or maybe even asking why so they can come to there own conclusions, there is someone reading this that knows exactly what I mean and I thank him for his patience. But on the other side of that I firmly believe that you really can and should find your own answers to question before taking the easy route and asking someone else, you can actually learn the answer by researching it instead of asking someone and just being able to regurgitate the answer, if you want to learn the answer your real question should be "how do I find it" ... ("Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he'll eat forever."). And as always .... "As you seek, so shall you Find"

Harley, asking questions is how we learn no matter what our learning curves are. That's why forums like this are so effective. "You ask and you shall receive different point of views" from so many different people. Asking one person will only give you their perspective. Like Kathy said, "blindly following" can and will limit your understanding of the broader scope of an investigation or even get you in trouble. So don't be afraid to ask, because we aren't afraid to give you an answer.

Excellent comments....I should have clarified my irritation specifically....a specific question was asked for a specific resource that I personally had cultivated some time ago. The seeker of assistance was told I had that resource. So he contacted me, I gave it to him. Then he comes back questioning the resource...who they were, how they could help, etc....I answered his question and then he asked me for the information again...I guess he had deleted the first time I answered it.

Thus my frustration and the reasoning behind this post.

Yes, I agree with all of the above posts regarding independent thinking, learning curves, encourageing others, etc. What I don't agree with is asking for help, recieving it, discarding it, and then asking for it again.

When I first started in my cowboy days years ago, I was given very sage advice: "If an experienced cowboy offers you advice, take it. Regardless of whether you asked for it or not. Obviously they have seen you doing something that is unsafe, illogical, or just plain wrong. If you take thier advice, they will respect you for respecting them and will help you down the road; However, if you refuse or ignore thier advice, you have openly disrespected them, and they wont help you down the road."

I heeded that advice and it served me well during that career. This is what I am referring to. A guy asked for help, he was given it, discarded it, questioned it, and then asked for it again....

I hope now you can see why I was frustrated.

"Some minds are like concrete thoroughly mixed up and permanently set." Others, just need the verification. So I agree with all of the statements above. The bright side of someone not using the information you gave without doing some research or getting another opinion is, you know that he's not falling for everything he hears. I have taken advise and referals from experienced BR and came to find it was just a "You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" scam group. I posted about them, some time back. They refer you to the guys they work with and then you get ripped off by all of them.... they have been in the business for about 15 years (well, two of them). So, I can't say that asking for a second opinion or for more info is a bad thing... just the mis-placed info, is.
