Thank you for your reply. On a side note, yesterday there was a meeting of the Jefferson County (Texas) Bail Bondsmen Assoc. I go to all the meetings and just sit in the corner. This time, instead of just sitting there, I asked the members present, "Who here is a member of PBUS?" Out of the 13 members, 9 stated they have never been a member and the other 4 stated they did not renew their memberships. They stated there were no benifits to them in being a member. PBUS has done nothing for them. One member quit last year, because PBUS brought the Chapmans into the fold. I was informed this was done to generate more money (charging $25 to have your picture taken with The Puppy), because of past "accounting errors".

Actuallly they charged $50 per photo and the money went to the PBUS. Also, A&E PAID the PBUS $5,000 for Chapman to appear last year. Also, Also, as they did last year, again this year the "Dog" donated an autographed poster or photo of him.

So the PBUS benefited financially from last and this years appearances. However, I am finding more and more people that quit because of their appearances. They may lose eevn more this time around.

Sounds like A&E is trying to "legitimize" the Chapmans by paying PBUS to promote them, and PBUS is gladly taking their money.

I can't believe anyone would pay $50 to take a pic with them. They would have to pay me a lot more than that just to get me in the same room with them.

Hearing that A&E ponied up $5 K to bring Dog to PBUS' show (pun intended) the last two years, makes me want to stop watching any of their shows. Don't be surprised if a "Weaselesque" letter pops up here regarding my "boycott" of all A & E shows.

Well,

The "Boss" wanted to do something special for our 15th anniversary like cruise to Hawaii. But, since the legiscritters over there have joined the puppy pound, I think we'll go to Florida instead.

I would't call it a Hawaii boycott. But if I ran into them while vacationing, I might get arrested myself!

I appreciate and mirror your comments completely. If you look up the archives here, I stated a similiar opinion to yours and you defended them.
I modified my postion based on your input, and a special request to speak at PBUS by the insurance company I write insurance bonds with.

In my speach/discussion, I mentioned my previous issues with PBUS, as you can attest to.

I was very happy to finally meet you there, as it reenforced the level of respect that I have for you. This goes for others that introduced themselves to me there as well. It was and is an excellent opportunity to network with potential clients.

However, I intend to mirror your actions as it is best for me, my integrity and the industry I represent.

Scott, I feel there still needs to be a better working relationship between bail agents and recovery agents. In the past, I thought the PBUS would be one half of the equation that could bring that about. Then we needed one recognized organization on the recovery side to represent the recovery agents. It may be as hard as herding cats to accomplish a meeting of that magintude.

Also, other than legitimizing the Chapmans, I don't think too many of the PBUS members fully appreciate the skills of true professional recovery agents. You noticed that the morning session with Mrs Chapman was SRO and the afternoon with you and Rex was barely half full. Yet, there was much more valuable information to be learned from you and Rex in those 2 hours than any other forum I have attended at the PBUS conferences!

I think if there was one national recovery org or even a combination similar to the AFL-CIO, that could speak with a unified voice for the recovery agents, it could lobby states and federal governments to protect the profession.

Then if the PBUS or any other bail association worked with the recovery agents association(s), we would have much more resources at our disposal.

I hope to make the Tenn meeting. If I can't I do hope that there will be some discussion about starting a national non-profit industry trade asociation for recovery agents. I will commit to working with anyone to help start such a group.

That topic is already being discussed. I myself have discussed it with Joe S., and the 3 "Scott's". Alot of hurdles, egos, territorial issues to resolve.

I've been told repeatedly it will never happen due to the egos and power trips that exist.

A true case of "too many chiefs..."

If 1 person doesn't get elected, or feels slighted in the least, then he/she will throw a temper tantrum, withold contracts, blackball bea's in the industry, etc. Typical school yard shenannigan's.
