I know what you mean about good help. Were lucky. We dont have a high turnover rate at all with our agents. Actually, in my 7 yrs, we havent had any quit. We have fired a few. All but one, I had bad vibes when we hired them, but were lucky enough to get rid of them before any harm was done. One we just fired really bothers me. He was one of my first friends in the bail bond business when I first started. I left the first company I worked for after a year and went to the company he worked for. Then when they cheated me out of $8800 after just four months, I got him to come work for us not long after I made the move to where I have been ever since. We have swapped bonds and picked up numerous people over the years and besides being good, when he wants, hes a hoot to travel with. It saddens me to know he has done the things to the company that he did. But, we did hire two more in his place that I think will be great. We have a policy of not helping or hiring people getting new licenses. Theres enough agents, more than enough, in this area. We usually keep our eyes open for good agents working for band generals in the area. Most have come from the same company that got to me 6 yrs ago. They screw everyone eventually. We must do something good, they never leave us.

I have been thinking of relocating to AZ. I havent pursued it heavily, yet. But have mentioned it a few times. I was supposed to meet with one fella last month and got iced in and didnt make the trip. I would like to have someone established to work for at least to get started. If not a partner. But, scary as it is, I think my record will stand tall on its own and I could pick up some good clients on my own in time. Not to toot my own horn.

Sorry for the rambling post. I know what you mean by good help being hard to find. I would like to find a half dozen more, but Im picky. I would also like to find someone that wants a ready made agent with lots of skip tracing and recovery experience and great work ethic. Those are hard to find too.

I think myspace, and yahoo friends are a great tool for networking. It's not a 100% business. It's a mix of business and personal. You get to know people on a little more personal level. It has worked well for me. I have met contacts that I would not have otherwise. "Also you have to take the good with bad." It's true some of the BEA's who are on my space are just active on myspace, while others are not up to the standards of some of the members of this fourm. However many are ok to work with and for. Some are just cut from a different cloth. Many of the Bailbondsmen are smaller and more willing to take a chance on you if your new. I have asked for help ,asistance and advice of some agents I know from both here and from myspace and yahoo from time to time mostly because I have a higher confort level with them because I feel as if I know them better. In turn they have favors in the bank with me.
It might not be for everyone but it has worked for me.

It is hard to get started in this biz no matter where you are located. It is hard to weed out the cowboys who get into it because of what they see on TV or because they consider it a "fun" profession. I understand your frustration, as do most of the pros on this and other forums. It is difficult, but keep your standards, meet with other pros, and you will eventually succeed.
