Tri-State,
You are assuming that we all use badges...
Security Guards are generally uniformed, at which time a displayed rank would be appropriate. We are not uniformed, well most of us
Scott

If you don't use badges what do you use to ID yourself to the local LEO's?
Somehow I don't think that just saying " Hi, I'm a BEA" won't cut it.

Well,
Is your wife name Broomhilder? Mine is Broomnelder, Wicket Witch of the West.
I'm sure glad that she doesn't know about this site! My name would be grass and she would be the lawn mower.

Use some imagination and experience and maybe you will figure out how most of us do not use badges and never have a problem with Law Enforcement. You seem to have tunnel vision in wanting to use a badge so go ahead just do not try to use it here where I live you will be charged with a Felony.

Ive always had really good luck in Arkansas. Kinda like everywhere else, use common sense, just tell them Im a bondsman and here to pick up a skip and all but once in Little Rock, the cops have gone with us without us asking and have always been friendly and professional. Little Rock dispatch actually said they basically didnt have time to mess with us, which was no problem, and to go get him and only call back if we had trouble. We didnt, went smooth.
Ive actually picked up several in Arkansas and love going there. No badge though....

Most areas here are willing to help and most do not know the laws just be careful when you run into those that do know and never tell them you are a bounty hunter, BEA etc. if you are a bondsman that is fine.

Tunnel vision huh?
I was on the job for almost 6yrs and proudly wore my badge. I have never ever come across anyone involved in the Bail Enforcement/Fugitive Recovery field which is why I asked, and if I had, I would have wanted to see some sort of ID
As for experience I think after 15yrs being involved with Law Enforcement and Security that's something I DO have.

Tristate,
Please allow me to clarify some things for you. 1st of all, thank you for your service as cop. Alot of former leo's enter this field.
2ndly: I do basically identify myself as " I am a fugitive recovery agent here in your jurisdiction to attempt to apprehend John or Jane Doe presumably living at...."
Then I present them with my Bondsman's warrant, state that they are supposed to be in NCIC, etc. I then ask them to verify the warrant, and several times they discover they have local warrants on the subject themselves. This allows them to send a unit out with me, generally they take custody of the fugitive on thier warrant, I get a prisoner reciept, call my client so they can put a "hold" on the fugitive and my job is done.
3rdly: Alot of badge shapes and designs are illegal in alot of states. This is what Houndog was alluding to. This is why alot of us don't even fool with them anymore. Too many people assume you are a leo when you flash a badge, therefore alot of us deem it a troublesome issue so we just simply don't do it.
Yes, I often have people asking me for credentials, I tell them my name, what I am, who I am working for, and that I have already checked in with the police and if they wish they can call the police to confirm my presence there. Alot of the time, they do just that.
We walk on such a thin line, we always have to be conscience of where the line is and not to cross it.
Lastly, this approach has garnered me the utmost in professional assistance from local leo's, all the way up to police chiefs. I cannot tell you how much they appreciate the check in process.
I hope this helps explain some of the issues regarding badges.
