Icrys5759... I did not receive an email from you. If you sent one without anything in the subject line then it was erased without being opened.
HGUNNER and myself are writing a 'critique' on A&E's "Dog, The Bounty Hunter" for publication. I intend to include the good and the bad. Any and all assistance I can receive from those who watch the show will be greatly appreciated as I am so prejudiced against vigilante Chapman and his thugs it is difficult for me to see and scribe the 'good' (if there is any).
Please email me your observations after each showing.
Thank you.

Just a question. These Charges against Chapmans "wife" "beth" isnt it pretty common or at least not unheard of for a skip to press these kinds of charges when they have been caught??

The one prosecuting most of the charges (if not all) was the police, not the skip. During a police investigation, other issues surfaced. Go to my website and click on Mr. Chapman's photo then scroll down to read the charges.

As regards Chapman’s significant other Beth Smith (a/k/a Beth Barmore & Beth Chapman), she is actually Alice Elizabeth Barmore who faced the following charges in Jefferson County, Golden, Colorado under case number 2002-cr-000080: 18-3-207(1)(A)(B)(I) Extortion-Unlawful Act F418-3-303, False Imprisonment M218-5-102 (1) (c), Forgery- Check/Commercial Instrument F518-3-207 (1)(a)(b)(l), Extortion-Unlawful Act-CSP F518-3-303 and False Imprisonment-CSP M3.
It is alleged that Beth and an associate named Mary Angel picked up a female named Kimberley Pierce who was out on Beth's bail bond in the amount of $20,000.00 because Ms. Pierce did not make payments for the bond as she agreed to do; Pierce was bonded out of jail on January 17, 2001 for 'possession w/intent'. On October 19, 2001 Pierce was brought to Beth's office where it was alleged that Beth forced Ms. Pierce to make telephone calls to everyone she knows to raise the money she owed. One of the calls Pierce made was to her attorney who, in turn, telephoned the police. Edgewater Colorado police arrived shortly afterwards and allege that both Smith and Angel committed overt conspiratorial acts along with distinctive statutory acts resultant in the criminal complaints. Of particular interest was the forgery charge where it was alleged that Beth 'forged' a bail bond receipt improperly dated or dated after the fact. I am not knowledgable as to the actual facts of that situation.
I assume that if the charges were dropped it's because Ms. Pierce would not make a good witness and/or Ms. Pierce dissolved back into the drug community and could not be found to attend hearings.

Depending on the individual state law(s), extortion contains various elements to complete the crime, and many people are not aware of how this applies to bail bond transactions.
For the record, I have never arrested a client over money. If I bail a person out who still owes on the bail premium and that person does not comply with the arrangement then that is on me. It is my tough break.
There are bail bond company owners who will corner a client (read: making that person feel like they cannot leave of their own free will 'false imprisoment'), and say pay up or go to jail (read: extortion) with some regularity.
I don't agree with this tactic, but bail common law is highly complex in that the client is released into the "constructive custody" of the bail bond company as an "extension" of the "original imprisonment." The bail bond company has the client "on a string and may pull that string" whenever they no longer want on the bond.
While the police may put a felony affidavit forward for the DA to charge, it all boils down to 'he said; she said.'
All in all it is very simple. Do not take part in any possible arrest situation dealing with unpaid debt as a bail bond company owner or a BEA.

On September 20th I received a letter from William A. Hobbs, the Deputy Secretary of State for Colorado. He answered my complaint against Mr. Chapman's wearing of a badge with the Colorado state seal. The letter
reads, in part...
"So you are aware, the Colorado Secretary of State's office has contacted Mr. Duane Lee 'Dog' Chapman and have informed him of the statutes and policies surrounding the Colorado State Seal. In addition, we have requested that he discontinue use of the State Seal on bail enforcment badges, and any other business related literature or paraphernalia. The Secretary of State does not have investigative or punitive authority to further examine this issue, however, if inappropriate use continues the Secretary of State's office may turn this issue over to the Colorado Attorney General's Office to take legal action."
If anyone wants a copy of the letter, please email me your fax number or mailing address.

Why will no one prosecute this man and his "team"? He breaks or has broken law after law after law. If anyone in the landlocked states had done this, we would definitely be in jail by now.
Where can someone write or how can we contact this person?
Have received so many phone calls and emails since his show came out and they are not positive.
Is there hope? How do the professionals overcome the rabies that accompanies the dog disease?

And, by the way...
How many weekly shows do they need to see of his badge to actually prosecute him?

It is my understanding that the shows are taped weeks or even months ago, so the seal will stay at least until new shows are taped, but we'll see about that I suppose.
