Miami-Dade bondsman charged with forgerySouth Florida Business Journal
A Miami-Dade County bail bondsman has been arrested and charged with forging court documents, the Office of the Attorney General of Florida said.
Marc J. Cooper is accused of forging the signature of a notary public and using it as a seal on two affidavits, which he used to try and bail out his client who was jailed on racketeering charges in Palm Beach County.
Cooper would have earned a $7,500 fee for his services. His client -- Dinorah Mateu - remains in custody because she has been unable to show the source of funds used to post her $150,000 bail came from a legitimate source separate from the alleged racketeering.
Cooper was arrested in Miami-Dade and will be transferred to Palm Beach County.
He faces two counts of forgery and two counts of providing false or misleading information in an application for bail. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.
