TUSCALOOSA | Homicide investigators are searching for a man who struck a bounty hunter with his vehicle Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Tuscaloosa Police Department, at approximately 2:17 p.m. several bounty hunters with A-Advance Bail Bond were attempting to take Robert Lee Sudduth into custody at Sherman Concrete on 35th Street when Sudduth, 20, hit one of the bounty hunters with his car. Sudduth then fled the scene.
The injured bounty hunter, Chad Grantham, was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released after several hours, said Mark Flemmings, president of A-Advance Bail Bond.
Flemmings said the bounty hunters were attempting to apprehend Sudduth on second-degree theft and failure to appear in court charges when Grantham was struck.
“We had been pursuing him for little less than a week when we got a tip that he was at Sherman Concrete," Flemmings said.
“When we got there we saw him talking to a few people while sitting in his car," he said. “We then attempted to block him in with my truck while Mitch [Morgan] and Chad approached him from outside."
Mitch Morgan, the chief bail enforcement agent with A-Advance Bail Bond, said Sudduth spotted them and immediately accelerated in their direction.
“We were about five yards away from [Sudduth] when he punched the gas," Morgan said.
“I jumped to the side, but he hit Chad full on," he said. “Chad was knocked over the hood of [Sudduth’s] car and bounced off his windshield before he rolled off to the side and hit the side of Mark’s truck."
Flemmings said Grantham didn’t suffer from any broken bones, but was in a lot of pain.
According to police, Sudduth now faces an attempted murder charge in addition to his previous charges.
Sudduth is described as a 145-pound black male standing 5-foot 10-inches tall. He has short black hair and brown eyes.
It’s unknown what Sudduth was wearing when the incident occurred, but he was driving a gold 1991 Toyota Camry, Flemmings said.
Anyone with information regarding Sudduth’s whereabouts is asked to call the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit at 205-752-0616, Crime Stoppers at 205-752-7867 or A-Advance Bail Bond at 205-345-1652.
