El Paso bail bondsman indicted on federal charges
EL PASO, Texas -- An El Paso bail bondsman was arrested Tuesday on federal obstruction of justice charges in connection with a drug trafficking suspect he bailed out of jail.
David Delgado, 53, is accused of impeding an official proceeding by filing a false death report in the case of a Mexican woman accused of drug smuggling.
Prosecutors say Delgado posted a $25,000 bond for the suspect and then convinced her not to show up for a court hearing in January 2005. He later lied about her whereabouts, her health and eventually her supposed death, prosecutors said.
Delgado, who owns and operates Casa Bail Bonds in El Paso, is charged with four counts of making false statements, two counts of improper influence in an official proceeding and one count of obstruction of justice. He is scheduled to be court for an initial appearance Wednesday afternoon. If convicted, Delgado could face up to five years in prison for each count.

Why would a bondsman bail someone out, then "convince" them not to show up for court and fake their death unless he was somehow involved with or threatened by the organization that she was affiliated with?
I know of BEA's in El Paso who wore masks to hide their identity when our team was there searching for a couple of drug-running skips. They said anyone trying to pick up someone from this organization was placing their own lives and everyone else's involved in jeopardy.
The bondsman said they were being ridiculous until they told him that these people woould come after him as well. Then it became prudent to back off, get an extension and let the authorities handle it. As far as I know, these guys are still running, most likely hiding in Mexico.

If the bondsman is connected to an organization that moves narcotics and he is the one they call he could be compensated for the skips if that is what the organization wants him to do. In other words he may be connected to this illegal ring and advised his client to run because of a long prison term without any financial risk to himself because of compensation from this organization.
As we always say it is to early to speculate what may or may not be going on with this story.
