This has long been a problem, there always seems to be a small number of bad apples in this profession that misrepresent themselves, then there are people associated with a skip that make malicious accusations even when an fra identifies themselves appropriately. In my opinion using company names that start with "U.S." or otherwise give the impression of being a government agency is just setting ones self up for problems.

You have what is called IMPLIED AUTHORITY... If when dealing with looking for an individual and there are lets say family members home or neighbors or whomever and they believe you are the "Police / FBI / Secret Service / SWAT / or any other group / division or unit they think you are .. as long as you NEVER ID'ed yourself as such it is not Illegal. Just because one "thinks or believes" you are someone does not legally mean you are impersonating such.

I have been on some searches where family members thought we are were the police although our patches on our vests clearly showed "Surety Agent" .. the other times we have also been thought to be 'Security' Officers since they thought our patches were misspelled. :?
