The police cheif in this story makes a compelliong argument against the bill.

If the story is correct, sometimes bail agents provide the ammunition to shoot ourselves with.

The county this article is referring to has been against Bail Bondsman since I've been in this profession. I've read Jeff's posts about Bondsman in his area and man that's bad. I've never seen that kind of thing in any of the 100 counties in NC, but we do have some problem Bondsman. There is a lot of jealousy in this business as well as greed. I've seen Bondsman get mad if another bondsman wrote a large bond. I don't understand it but if things continue this way I'm not going to continue to associate myself with this profession. Grown men acting like a bunch of two year olds... This is getting old fast. I just saw an example of this in Buncombe County. Not sure how much longer I want to be in this business, but for now my wife and myself are paid up with NABBI so we're staying a while longer

Bill and all,

I get these bail related story alerts everyday. It saddens me to see a 10 negative stories for every 1 positive.

It reminds me of when I was an "innocent" average citizen and my mother in law asked me to get my bail license 14 or 15 ago.

I told her that I didn't want to work with those scummy criminals. Little did I know then that there were scummy bail agents too. I was naive and thought that bail agents must be the most up standing people around.

But once I did start working in bail, I found that most of the "criminals" weren't all that bad. Most made stupid decisions. Some were drug users, another stupid decision in my opinion. And the rest are just hard core criminals.

What I was not prepared for, was the scumbag bail agents. The back stabbing, under cutting, illegal, unethical doings of just a few. That shocked me.

When I went to my first PBUS convention in Las Vegas, I was in awe of the many bail agents that had decades of experience. To me, they were the cream of the crop. The smartest, brightest, most knowledgable and professional. Only later to find out that there were some among them, that would stab you in the back to make a buck.

That was also true for the California agent convention. Mostly good agents but few bad that as the saying goes, "will smile in your face and stab you in the back when it is turned."

So, I too often feel like quiting and getting a respectable job or just live off the Boss. She makes enough to support the both of us.

However, after meeting all of you men and women on here, other forums and in person, I believe there is hope for the profession. I truly believe this. It is not just talk.

As Scott has said, we may not benefit greatly from NABBI and what ever other work we do in educating the public about bail and bail recovery but, hopefully the work we do will keep the profession alive and our children or others will be able to work in a profession that will some day be respected.

AND BE FREE OF THE A$$HOLES THAT ARE CURRENTLY RUINING IT!

Tony, I'm with you 100 percent. I'm doing my best to stay positive but it gets harder each year. I am so damn sick of dealing with grown men that act like a bunch of babies. I have had to leave jails because I knew if some of the stuff I was seeing, continued, I'd snatch somebody's ass up, which would only add to our black eye.

I used to love this business, but I am becoming more and more ashamed of the way grown men amd women are acting in this business. Heck, I see it on this forum at times and I just leave it alone, because I'm fed up.

To seperate my thoughts from Tony's, I agree that we can work to make this profession better for the others that come along. Tony had nothing to do with my other remarks. Any heat from that belongs to me.

Tony and Bill, one of the root cause issues is that people are either in this business for the fast buck (liability free bond writers) or they are in this business as a family venture and plan to be around a generation or two (hopefully this category permeates NABBI)

I am tired of trying to correct someone who is acting in a manner detrimental to this profession, they don't see it as anything more than jealousy, and keep on keeping on until some politician pulls the plug.

Maybe we as NABBI to start saturating the public with the positive things being done. What are people doing in their community to make it better? Get with your local papers and get the positive stuff out there!
