Jun 30, 2010 11:55 pm US/Eastern Marine Chases Down Robber In Northeast Philly PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
A Marine, only days removed from the war in Afghanistan chased down and helped police apprehend a would-be-robber in Northeast Philadelphia on Wednesday.
Bruised, bloodied and handcuffed, the surprised suspect had no idea when he stole a safe from a Winchester Park home that he would be spotted and chased down by Marine Lance Cpl. Mike Kelley, who just returned home four days ago from the battlefields of Afghanistan.
"I said 'you're done now, you don't know what you did, you done messed with the wrong Marine,'" Kelley told Eyewitness News.
Kelley and his brother chased the suspect and his alleged accomplice for blocks following the burglary.
"He tried to fight at first, but he couldn't handle it and he got dropped like a sack of potatoes."
After dropping the safe, the suspect allegedly yelled at Kelley to stop chasing him. But Kelley said he was not about to let the suspect escape.
Kelley said he is disappointed that the second suspect was able to get away.
"He's a coward. He kept going, he didn't want to fight."
The suspect, who investigators said refused to give his real name, is expected to remain behind bars.
