I am thinking of coming into the business and i have a criminal record, i have no felonies, But i know that people like Dawg the bounty hunter has an extensive record and he has a license in his state where he resides, i am wondering what kind of things would not allow me to get a fugitive recovery license? My record is nowhere as bas as his, and i have read up on it, any advice would be great,

It's not up to us....it's up to your state and local jurisdictions. Just FYI, Mr. Chapman and crew are NOT our recruiting image. I can't tell you how many of us, nationwide, have heard that logic...."Hey dude, The dawg does it, so can I....lemme ride wit ya man...I can kick butt, I can do this, I can do dat...yadda yadda yadda"
That's all I'm going to say about that.

The only license Mr. Chapman has is a drivers license. And I not sure if he even has that!
He is not a licensed bail agent.
Hawaii does not license "bounty hunters."
Just a FYI.

Check local laws, usually with DCJS (department of justice) in your state for qualifications. Felons in VA cannot be licensed; many states have no licenses for BEA; some require other licenses to operate as a BEA... read the FAQ's page here and other sites but if you get into the business, do it the right way... and check out the schools and associations you get into very, very close... there are a lot of "yahoos" that want to get into this business and a true professional will not even talk to them.... 'Dog' is a TV personality (questionable) that has created and maintains a character in a "show"... an actor (questionable) that portrays something that some people find unusual and exciting... (questionable)... BUT IT IS TV... period. When I was 10 years old, I used to strap on a two gun rig and play cops and robbers.... IMHO that show is about equal to that scenario... although I was a lot better at it than he is........ I was "Lash La Rue"... now all you kiddies ask me about him...........

Now on to a better subject,
Welcome, The Louisiana Dept of Insurance is who will issue you your license. You can go online with them and Request a Packet that will have all the material you will need to get started. After all requirements are met which will include a State test & Class room participation of X amount of hrs. That will be the easy part, Finding someone to get your foot in the door is where you will have to be very creative and market yourself find something you can bring to the table(what i mean here is why would i want you on my team above any of the rest of applicants) You will find that the marketing phase is the hardest obstacle, So everything you are able to read about, extra schooling, extra training etc. is what will give you an edge over other applications, Do not go buy a bunch of gadgets to put on a batman belt to me if i hire anyone it will be for the knowledge that he or she has gained on there own before you came to ask me to take you in as a team member. Most of us here have been in the business for many years, and have gained clientele over many years, I have been in and or around this type of work since 1975, I stated out sweeping the office, taking out the trash etc. A lot of today's young people think they should come in at the top and not pay any dues. This is a ruff business to get into but if you make up your mind that you want in get the edge, pay your dues and little by little you will build a good strong business.
