This is a topic I found on the yahoo bailrecovery group, the following is the original posters message and at the bottom is a link to the website for the Ammunition Accountability group.
Did you know anything about this?
I have been an investigator, for over 24 years!
I fully support and assist law enforcement in its efforts to "Fight Crime & Solve Cases".
When I read about this effort, I found myself torn between those I support and my concerns about the integrity of the instrument.
By instrument, I mean the method that would be in place, to ensure that when I buy a box of rounds (ammunition) that it has not been tampered with by an "unverified" employee of the gun store, or a gang associate who is an employee of the ammunition manufacturer, etc.
While a simple solution would be to put a special seal or sticker on the box, those efforts would hardly make me feel secure.
And what about the "human factor" in the number labeling, or even random rounds being taken from their proper box.
How about this scenerio... You go to the range, and fire off several hundred rounds.
Are you supposed to recover all of those rounds, to ensure that your numbered projectile is not dropped at a crime scene!!!!!!!
Most gun ranges, DO NOT ALLOW YOU TO RECOVER YOUR BRASS (SPEND CASINGS)... Certainly, not your projectiles (bullets)!
The gun control liberals got a setback when the Supreme Court upheld the 2nd amendment rights in Wash. DC.
Now they are trying to come thru the back door.
Please forward this to all you know that want to keep their guns and not be tracked for simply owning one!!!!
Maybe we can have a positive impact on the outcome.
Remember how Obama said that he wasn't going to take your guns?
Well, it seems that his minions and allies in the anti-gun world have no problem with taking your ammo!
The bill that is being pushed in 18 states requires all ammunition to be encoded by the manufacture and added to a database of all ammunition sales.
So they will know how much you buy and what calibers.
Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 , unless the ammunition is encoded.
Any privately held un-coded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1, 2011... Including hand loaded ammo.
They will also charge about .05 cent tax on every round so every box of ammo you buy will go up at least $2.50 or more!
If they can deprive you of ammo then they do not need to take your gun!
This legislation is currently pending in 18 states: Alabama , Arizona , California , Connecticut , Hawaii , Illinois , Indiana , Kentucky , Maryland , Mississippi , Missouri ,
New Jersey , New York , Pennsylvania , Rhode Island , South Carolina , Tennessee , and Washington .
