Post subject: Need help in verifying a BEA
 Post Posted: Tue 13 Jan 2009 18:44

im living with someone i believe to be a compulsive liar. I live in california. she sais she is a BEA that worked for a company called "paradigm" until a couple months ago when it went under, so now she works for "so cal recovery".
so, i have two questions to those of you firmiliar with this field of work-
1. she has invited me multiple times to come and aid her in arresting a fugitive. Im trained tactically and i have my own gear and firearms which shes asked me to bring. would this be legal?
2. I want to verify that she is indeed a legal BEA, as i am yet to see any actual evidence of this. How would i do this? is there some amount of documentation she would have to provide or is it as simple as checking a database?
I appreciate your time and any help or advice you can offer.

you need to be asking the question of those in Cali.
The Majority of folks here are East of the Mississippi.
Suggs is there a site somewhere to verify those in Cali?

The way I understand it, California's pretty tight on their requirements. Tony would be the one to ask. I do know that it is illegal in California to do BEA work without a 1299 certificate. I suggest that you don't help her without checking into the laws, the field, courses, certificates, etc.

1) You have to be both 1299 and 832 certified.

2) Carrying weapons is tricky in Ca. They don't normally issue ccw's to regular citizens. So you carrying a weapon, whether concealed or not, may be illegal depending on the circumstances.

When I was there in 2006, the way we understood the laws was that we could open carry during the attempted apprehension. Once we were done we had to remove our weapons and unload them and secure in seperate containers, yadda yadda yadda.

I wouldn't fool with her if I were you.

I agree with RWB! There's no professionally licensed BEA that would ask someone to assist them knowing that person wasn't licensed and trained. Can you say "law suit' or "jail time"? Not to mention a lot of other issues including safety!

First, look up CA Penal Code section 1299. It will explain the qualifications for being a CA BFRP. Then you can ask her to provide her certificates that prove she is "compliant."

There is no data base to check to see if anyone is 1299 compliant in CA. There is no BFRP "license" or permit issued in CA. AND, the BSIS security guard card is not valid fo recovery work.

Even if she is 1299 compliant, you can not go "with" her to pickup anyone. You are not 1299 compliant.

Finally, there have been recent "fake" bounty hunters robbing people, especially in rural areas and in the marijuana growing areas.

So how well do you actualy know this person you live with?

Just call the place she is supposed to be with and she if she indeed works there. Be real careful as to not accompany her without being legal yourself. RWB is correct. No real professional would have you accompany them without you being licensed.

Tony. Bet you're really missing WI right now. After dumping 3 inches of more snow on us yesterday, it dropped down to 18 below last night! The high today was 4 below! Makes you want to move back doesn't it?

Also, if this company is giving her work and she is not legal, just how legal are they? There are a lot of "fakes" all over the country. Don't get caught up and get yourself arrested by not doing what you seem to know is right.

ICER,

Lets see, this morning I took the "Boss's" dogs for a run, pruned back the roses and washed the Crown Vic all the while it was a balmy 75 sunny degrees!

Wisconsin? Where is Wisconsin?

Instead of Escape to Wisconsin, I escaped from there so long ago, I forgot where it is!
