The Bail Industry On MS GUlf Coast

This election we got a new Sheriff. Since we got a new sheriff he has tried to control everything at the jail. For starters a week after he was sworn in 4 inmates escaped using a door to batter out the wall one of the men was a guy in jail on capital murder that escaped before. They caught the 4 escapies and security got really tuff around the jail it was hard for jailers to get into the jail to work. The sheriff went to the Board of supervisers meeting and was granted 9 million dollars the security at the jail went back to nothing that day. He took the online jail docket off the internet. ( He said it was a emberised the first time Dui people or those who were innocent of those charges) so we no longer have aonline jail docket. Then he decided to close down the lobby of the jail from 10 p.m. to 6a.m. which is most of our buisness no one can get out between those hours ( now don't that emberise those that he did not want to emberise when they lose there jobs cause they were no shows to work because he would not let them bond out) Then when you go to the jail at 6a.m. to get someone out the pull them for court and wont let them bond out. They then normally get released to pay fines or O.R. Bonds or house arrest till their trial. Also you can not surrender anyone at those times either witch as a bailbondsman you have the right to surrender at any time most of the people i catch I catch at night so I have to hold them at my office for all that time.

Also in order to write a $100,000 bond you have to get it approved by the sheriff. also anything $100,000 or more he now makes you sign a form saying you got the full bond premium.

So that is what our industry has turned to.

Can you please tell me how and why is a Sheriff giving the OK for Bail Bonds, is he also a "JUDGE"!!!

naw he thinks he is he turned one of mine bonds down because they were allegedly charged with child molesting. He had the full 15% for a out of state bond 15,000 cash and had to get a attorney to get a bond reduction so i could get him out.

Georgia, being a non insurance state, has rules where the indiviual sheriff controls any and all Bail Bonding business. He is the final approval for establishing a bonding/recovery company. He decides how, when, and where to turn people in or bond people out. The sheriff makes the decision on whether any certain person can work in his towns. The sheriff even has control over a person bonding out. This has its ups and downs but until something new comes up, this is what we deal with, everyday.

There are a few counties in GA that allow surety (insurance) bonding. Most though are property or professional bondsmen and women.

See we are a personal Surety company and my step mothers company is Insurance they never ask for a financial statement from us to write the bond

Instead of beating your head against a wall, why don't you try getting to know him . . . not saying kiss butt just always smile, be polite and above ALL BE PROFESSIONAL in all your dealings at the Jail.
It will take some time but once he realizes that you are not "all about the Money" he will become more reasonable.
It is just human nature.
You have to remember, this is not a profession that always has the best of characters associated with it.

I'm not a Bondsman, but I thought that the court set the bond and if it's posted then the inmate is released to the bondsman. I did not know that the sheriff had any authority over that matter. I know that they can make it more difficult, but ultimately they had to obied by what the courts have decided. Isn't he an enforcer (LE) and not a judge as DSI stated.
