Learned today that Wisconsin has a "pilot program" in place for the bringing back of the commercial bail bond industry. Currently it only allows 5 counties to use the commercial bail bonds, and that is at the judges discretion. I sincerely hope to see this become open to more than the 5 counties, however, it is set to automatically go state wide in 2018.

Thoughts? Comments? Advice?

Nope,

Gov. Walker vetoed that law. No surety bail in Wisconsin. Since this was the second attempt. Most likely it is dead forever now.

True, but we did manage concealed carry. Never know, maybe if we have a new Governor. Another issue is not enough support. We need the entire state to get on board and pressure our council men and reps. I only found out about this right before it went thru. I was thinking of starting a Wisconsin Bail Association whose primary goal is getting the citizens on board, getting petitions and taking it to the capital. Not just hope for the best.

It will take a lot of educating the public. You will have to show that WI is only holding on to it because they look at the bail fees the defendant pays, as a source of revenue to cover fines and restitution.

Secondly, the negative image of "bounty hunters" is another reason the state doesn't want it. All the articles I read from the opposition included comments like they did not want "Dog" kicking in doors in WI.

Good luck if you decide to pursue an association. If I can help in any way let me know. I grew up in Milwaukee.

Agreed. I am not sure if undertaking an association is something I want to commit to just yet (still thinking and researching) or I may move to MN and do bail work. Its all depending on research atm but I deff will update my decision.

Honestly, I am in school for landscaping so starting a small landscape company would be easy enough, then do part time bail work. So not sure just yet,.

It may be easier to move the 40 or 50 miles across the state line and work bail out MN.

Yeah, I just decided to go ahead and start an association. I figured I will try to still get into the business in MN and learn while I work on this association as well. It will keep me busy.

Good luck with that.

Honestly, Wisconsin will most likely never legalize commercial bail bonds.

Contact the American Bail Coalition. They have been working on this issue in WI for several years.

They have the money of the surety companies behind them.

Again, it will take educating then public of the benefits of private bail. The public safety issue is a big one.
