It seems pretty clear that USRB is the most notorious scam center. I'm just curious, does anybody why they are still listed as an approved training facility for BEA licenses in the State of New York?

http://www.dos.state.ny.us/lcns/bequal.htm

I mean, to me this seems like the state actually supporting a fraudulent enterprise. Shouldn't part of the point of having a state approved course be to steer people away from the scam shops?

As long as they agree to teach the mandated curriculum they will be permitted to teach the NYS class, unfortunately there is not much to the approval process for providing training, the 25 hour class is only one step towards getting licensed in NYS, if you take the class but don't meet the other requirements then you don't get licensed.

One of the problems with USRB is that they lead people to believe that, all one needs to do is take their class, and pay to join USRB and then they are licensed to work in NY or any other state, we all know this is total BS, however they will continue to get away with it until the AG or FTC shuts them down.

FYI

USRB has done the same thing in Colorado after finding a loophole. Admittedly myself and other instructors here in Colorado failed to see the word "may" in reference to registering our training curriculum with the Division of Insurance. And again, so long as they teach according to the P.O.S.T approved criteria, supposedly they are alright. Hopefully with the lobbying were doing, this will change.

I  seem to think people on the forum are under the illusion of misunderstanding of the USRB and I being from Brooklyn orginally and have gone through the process, it is not only clearly stated to the students that they must attend a course that they (USRB) are entitled to teach, as well the booklets, and web criteria given to the students and instructors is clearly stated THIS IS A PROCESS FOR LICENSING. It also seems to me that most of the people that are writing are NOT listed to teach on this NYDOL site nor have gone through this process, I highly suggest you get your facts and thoughts together before posting.

I've read part of your post. " Hopefully with the lobbying were doing, this will change. "

Me and my team are from Michigan, we take this field very serious. We would like to lobby for some changes in the FRA laws as well. Do you or any other Agents on this board have any ideal where to start. How to start, etc........................

Straycatfra...

I struggled harder than I had to at first and then found that things were right before my eyes. The first thing you need to do is look into your community and find a politically active individual, make contact and get contacts. Start climbing the ladder from there but be well prepared with info you can get right off this site. Take the bad examples, express your desires to weed the bad and grow the good. Things may take time as they have for us but your case will build quickly when you find the right supporter. Research your states present info... what has been tried in the past, what worked and what didn't, what are the concerns of others. May be helpful to use pro BEA law enforcement contacts you may gained. Once you find the right support, in most cases a lobbyist will work with you closely and present the case for you as you progress. Although we may appear to be trying to cut thoats in here, don't do this in your lobbying, just give the bad examples as provied in black and white, news stories, and documentaries.

My hat is off to you and your efforts - Good luck

I would also try contacting Scott Olson of NIBE. He is very active in the politics of our industry and can well advise you on the steps for this kind of effort. You may also wish to speak with Hadley Dorfman or Lance Wilkinson. If I have my facts correct, Lance authored the New Hampshire statute regarding BEA's.

1 thing to remember: If someone really goes the extra mile in walking you through something, it is professional protocal to recognize them and send them something...gift certificate to Hooters, Wal-mart, Cabella's, whatever...just a means of showing your appreciation for thier help.

Stray,

I fully concur with Mindtracker on the etiquette, but remember one key point.......... so that you may talk business, one might not want to just give a gift certificate to Hooters, but instead, request to take them to dinner there, I mean why give a gift certificate when you may go and enjoy business talk also !

USRB is a scam, period, some of their "graduates" have called me looking for work complaining that they were promised a career and got an overpriced shiny badge that they can't use instead, many of those that called sounded like illiterate thugs.

Many Pro BEA's here have first hand knowledge that USRB will lie to prospective students, if that's what it takes to sell their class.

Last year they were telling people that their "Agents" were exempt from NY law when recovering skips in NY that are wanted in other states, they also said they were exempt because they are a NJ Company.

I'm not going to cite the NY law again that spells out how wrong USRB is, it's posted on this forum under a few other posts, USRB probably doesn't mention that some of their "Agents" were arrested in NYC for impersonating Police and trying to rob drug dealers.

How about their Meassage Board ? They banned me and some other BEA's from their message board because we were exposing their lies, one of their staff was telling prospective students that he was allowed to carry a firearm on a plane using USRB credentials.

As for getting listed on the NYDOL site to teach their class, sure I could easily do that and probably make a lot of money, however since NY requires 3 years law enforcement or bail enforcement experience and a $500,000 Surety Bond that no insurance company will write then no one that graduates the class would get licensed, don't believe me ? check the NYDOS web site and search for persons licensed in NYS as BEA's, you will not find even one.

The only people legally operating as BEA's in NYS are licensed PI's & their employees, and you don't need the 25 Hour BEA class to work as a PI.

I could go on all day about USRB, as far as I'm concerned their a wannabe
cop farm that scams unsuspecting people out of their hard earned money.
