COLUMBIA, S.C. - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration reports that at least 76 dogs nationwide are believed to have died as a result of eating contaminated Diamond Pet Foods.

The company has recalled 19 varieties of dog and cat food because tests showed high levels of aflatoxin, a naturally occurring toxic chemical that comes from a fungus found on corn and other grains that causes severe liver damage in animals.

The company recalled products manufactured at its Gaston, S.C., plant from around September to November 2005. Based on sample testing, Diamond has narrowed down the exposure to food produced on Oct. 11, Brinkmann said Thursday.

Don't want to sound callous, but "Who HASN'T lost a pet in their life." Besides... this has NOTHING to do with what goes on in these particular forums!!!

However... good info to have if you (SNIIIIIIIIFF) or someone you know uses Diamond Pet Foods... I guess.

I smell (SNIFF...SNIFF)... liability... (SNIFF...SNIFF) and... (SNIFF...SNIFF) LAWYERS!!!... RUUUUUUUNNNN!!!!! (I thought I smelled cattle when I saw this post!)

Absolutely RIGHT! We all have other issues, however, let's try to stay within the limits of the bail industry. This also serves to make the boards easier to follow (and monitor). I don't mean to sound like a prude, but this forum would be a complete mess if everybody got off track.

Just my opinion...

This person is new here, so let's take it easy on her/him. I understand why the post was made: Many of you have pets, therefore it was an attempt to warn you about this contaminated pet food.

However, there were unrelated issues in the posting. Perhaps a cliff noted version of the story could have been posted, or just a direct link to the story with a teaser line stating "hey, check out this story about bad pet food" or something to that effect.

Anyway, I appreciate the heads up, but I also can appreciate the ettiquette of this forum...keep articles, posts, comments etc generally focused on the industry.

It'll get figured out.
