I just had an interesting phone call.

I male voice stated that he was with the sheriff's department and wanted to know the last bond I posted because "they" the sheriff's department was notified that someone used a stolen credit card to bail someone out.

So I asked him what was his name. He stated, "Officer Kolowski?" I said aren't you a deputy sheriff, not an officer. He again said officer.

I asked what jail did he work at. He stated Richmond jail.

I them said well should you know what bond I recently posted as your are the sheriff department. No response from him.

He asked again for the last bond I posted. I told him that I am not giving out any information because he was just a voice over the telephone.

I asked for his department number and I would call the sheriff department directly. He stated that he was the sheriff department and proceeded to call me several names to which I replied, no he was and hung up.

I guess he was phishing for our clients credit card information.

Scary...nice job handling the situation. Wonder how many inexperienced or inattentive bondsmen wouldn't have caught that?

Might have been a family member trying to find out if his wife bonded her boy friend out on his dime!

Tricks are tricks!

I got the impression that he was out of state. In CA, all sheriff LEOs are refered to as deputies, not officers. That was the first clue off the bat.

Secondly, if he had a copy of my bond, he would have already known who I bailed out.

Finally, I did have a problem with a credit card in the past. In that case the officers actually came to the office in person. Not a phone call.

Unfortunately, his number was blocked so I could'nt see who or wahere he was calling from.

And he called me a dumb mf er because I didn't believe his scam. I may be old but I'm not senile yet!

Just checked my emails this morning. This guy or someone similar, tried this on at least 2 other bail bond agencies within the last 6 months. One gave up the info and her clients were contacted by him.

He was demanding more money by credit card over the telephone. Neither client gave up any more money via credit card and called the bail agency back to see what was going on.

When the scammer called the clients, he had used a fake caller id showing the bail agency name.

Blocked numbers get nothing from me... even if they promise me a trip to Florida!!

... and if you call me a MF... and a "dumb" MF at that?...I would get the impression that you were not on my "friends" list!!

... and as for you being senile... well.... I certainly do not think you are, however, I can tell you... that scenario ain't funny... Gail says I have Dementia... or whatever it is... she also says I suffer from a chemical imbalance... which is true as I have stated... I have a hard time maintaining the correct amount of Jack Daniels in my blood stream and it effects my thought process at times... and she says I repeat myself constantly............ I certainly do not.

...she says I repeat myself constantly............ I certainly do not.

You do know that truthfully, I drink very little...

Maybe I can use the chemical imbalance excuse also. That way I can get away with all those little typos, short term memory lost and just being a pain in the butt!

That way the Boss will let me get away with a lot more of crap I try to pull on her.

Naw, I don't think that will work.

Hey Scott, you may be right AO may be out of jail about now and trying some new scams
