Laser sights for various models

Who uses and which would you recommend along the laser sight lines.
I realize the 'wheel gun' may be difficult to fit but I was just wondering about the different applications. I know some of you full time "cowboys" can help me out in the info department... of course... I am only allowed to have one bullet in my weapon at any one time so I have to be super accurate if I ever have to fire down on someone or something.....

I am considering a laser sight for my little XD compact .40 Springfield


and possibly my .357 SP101 hammer-less Ruger.


I also sometimes carry a Beretta Cougar .40

You know speaking of one bullet, I've thought about getting this http://www.bondarms.com/ifirearms.php#snakeslayer. The little thing shoots .410 shells x 2.

I have the Texas Arms .45 long Colt Derringer with an extra set of .357 Barrels, over and under Derringer and a North American Arms .32 pocket rocket for deep concealed carry in a wallet holster. Of course, I carry a couple of .40 Glocks and a S & W Chief Special in .40 Caliber for daily concealed carry.

Bill. Check out Crimson Trace Laser Grips. They should make one for each one of your guns. We have Laser Max on our Glocks. They replace the guide rod. They might make one for your XD. The Laser Max are nice because you can still put a tactical light on with it. Hope this helps.

I carry a Kel Tec PF 9 most of the time. Thinnist, lightest 9mm I know of. And your not undergunned with 8 Cor Bon +Ps at your disposal. It works for deep carry. Fits in the palm of my hand. Conceals in a pocket or holster. Even if Im carrying my 45, which I do on pickups and everyday in the winter, I normally have the little 9 with me as well. My wife and mom both have the Kel Tet P3AT. Good for deep carry, or purse carry as they do it. I see them as last chance guns. Too small to fit my hand to shoot really accurate. However, the women shoot them well.

My mom has lazer sights on hers. After shooting it, I dont want them. The idea is great, however, I didnt realize how much I shake. And it is exaggerated with the lazer. You can see it. Im sure I shake the same without it, but shoot good groups anyway. When I can see it due to that red beam, I dont shoot nearly as well. Just a personal thing I guess.

You've got three great concealed carry guns there. Like Icer, I'd recommend the Crimson Trace or Laser Max (if available for your gun, obviously not the revolver) if your intent is to retain concealability. Another consideration is holster availability for guns equipped with the conventional lasers designed to mounted on a rail, like that on your XD.

Andy makes a very valid point about the laser "showin' the shake". Even given the most rock solid grip and stance, all of us are bound to shake a bit, especially in a high stress combat situation. The laser will certainly make this more evident, and for some, seeing that red dot dance around on your target may prove to be somewhat of a distraction while shooting, thus throwing your groups off a bit. If you've never used one before, it won't take but a couple seconds to realize it's a new discipline that will require some practice.

Personally, for close work with a handgun, I prefer open sites with maybe a flashlight when conditions warrant it. The laser has proven handiest for me on a shotgun or light rifle at intermediate distances. As always, my opinion and six bits might get ya coffee in some greasy dive somewhere. Very good info and advise... yes, the shaking is quite evident... never used a laser before but my son in law had to move out of country for a while on a job he has and he left his weapons with me... one is a SigSauer P229 (not a favorite of mine but ok I guess) he likes it and that is all that is important... anyway, it has a 'CTC' laser grip on it which I do like. The grips replace the originals and is activated by a small button on the left grip that you depress when needed. The only thing about it is that it makes a slight "clicking" sound which is audible in a quiet environment. Other than that it is a nice setup. I do like the Crimson Trace grips except that they attach by surrounding the stock grips which ads a different feel to the gun... I don't want a rail site cause the XD already is top heavy and in my opinion would add too much to the front end... anyway, as usual, you guys have given me food for thought.

That Cougar that I showed is a bit large for concealed carry. I just strap that on in a shoulder holster if I ever need it...

I don't much care for lasers. I don't think there is anything wrong with them just personal preference. I have found that the ranges a laser is accurate you don't even need sights to shoot. Point shooting within 0-10 yards is easy and under pressure far more accurate than trying to point a laser. A good option for very fast shooting is the XS big dot sights. It has extremely fast target acquisition if that is what you looking for and it's accurate to 50 yards on a 6 inch plate with a pistol.

If you really want a laser make sure it's very bright. Green lasers are better than red for day time use. Any big name laser is as durable and accurate as a laser can be. Just make sure it's comfortable to operate for you and that it's bright even in sun light. My personal opinion is that if it's not faster to use than iron sights it defeats the purpose on a self defense weapon. That is a determination everyone must make for themselves. Another great alternative is to get a red dot sight it's faster and more accurate.

You make a good point 4130. I can acquire and shoot much faster without looking or concentrating on the dot... at least that is my opinion. My son in law carries a Sig that he has put a laser on and it was sort of a novelty to an extent but your point gave me pause to rethink my reasoning... I figure at my age... I probably would be just as well off without the pretty red dot and I have to tell ya, any shootin' from my end is very likely to be under 10' and if I can point it... I can hit most things at that distance...

You might want to check out the XS big dot sight if you want a fast sight. It's a really big dot for the front sight and a really flat V in the back. It's super fast and more accurate than notch sights. It's more like aiming a shotgun but far more accurate. Almost all self defense shooting happens under 5' statistically. Inside of 5 feet you won't even be able to extend your arms far enough to see your sights.
