Special Agent?

I worked with a guy who dubbed himself "Special Agent," drove a Crown Victoria P71, the whole nine yards.

Long story short: He was rather pathetic and we discontinued his services due ultimately to his failure to sign documents that would prohibit him from identifing himself as a law enforcement officer, etc.

Bottom line (to me anyway) is this... anyone with 'Special Agent' on his or her ID card and/or badge needs to rethink their position and get right with reality. None of us are special agents except in our own head. It is crap like that which allows us all to be painted with the same brush. No one with "misleading representations" have or ever will accompany me on a case. I have a history of sending BEA's away from me when they've arrived in my area seeking my assistance. I sure have pissed off a lot of them and I laugh each time. As far as I'm concerned anyone having 'Special Agent' on his/her credentials is sending the absolute wrong signal and they are usually laughed at by those in the know... including law enforcement. That goes double for the idiots and morons who hang their jackets in the car window so AGENT is displayed for the populace to view when they pass by. I won't even get into those who have car decals on their doors...!!!

I feel that individuals should use the title assigned to them by their jurisdiction. Some areas use Bail Enforcement Agent or Fugitive Recovery Agent etc. Work with what you are have!

I have a question and a statemnet. the question is, what is BUMP? I see that Kathy has put that on a couple of threads.

The statement is that in Georgia the term that is used is Fugitive Recovery Agent. However, in reading the laws and the GAPB web site it always states the correct term to use in GA is Bail Recovery Agent. Even when I took the certification course the trainer refered to us as Fugitive Recovery... I get corrected when I say Bail Recovery, even though that is what the law books and Georgia Association Of Professional Bondsman states we are to be called. I find it confusing that there are so many different terms used for the same occupation. If you were to take a trip south to Florida they are Surity Agents. Until I am corrected in a court of law or by the GAPB president, my best bet would be to use the term that is on the books as correct...BAIL RECOVERY AGENT. Wouldn't you think this to be the right thing to do? Thanks for the advise.

Why do we need a title to begin with ? Who bestows these titles upon us ? They don't have any authority behind them to speak of, so why get all wrapped up in it ?

This subject has been beaten to death, many, many times on here.

I just simply tell people I work for the bonding company.....everyone understands that. No issues with "uniforms", or "impersonation" or whatever.

Again, the old addage: K.I.S.S - Keep it simple stupid....

Actually, that is what I have been told to do by my mentor. He just states that he is with the Bonding Company....he says, that cuts back on the confusion and arguments. When I introduce myself or announce myself, that is what I will say. I should have been more clear: What about if I am filling out paperwork in a new county? What do i use as my title; The title on the books or the one most commonly used?

If you are filling out CJ paper work (criminal justice) then you need to be asking your Da's office these questions.
