To confuse the situation even more so, laws/procedures vary from JURISDICTION TO JURISDICTION.... The procedure for surrendering a def in 1 county is totally different in an adjacent county...in spite of a uniform state law that governs this procedure.
In Al. the Sheriff's pretty much do as they please.

Very true, Ruffin. In my AO there is only one jail that allows us to turn in through intake. All the others "claim" that it is dangerous, illegal, and to much trouble. Me... I like going through intake. It is a shorter process and everyone knows the procedures. Surrendering through the lobby, to Bonding or Warrants.... I'll just say "NOT SO MUCH knowledge". Then, take into consideration the difference between signing one page (through one county) and filling out a booking sheet, surrender notification, off bond slip (more like an application), apprehension report, and , if applicable, an accident/injury report.... its like day and night. It all depends on where you are turning in.

now the sheriff makes us sign a aaffidavit stating that we have been paid in full if we do a credit bond they take us off the board for 30 days. When the attorney general states that a bonds man can do a bond on credit with a reasonable amount down. The affidavit has helped in some ways and hurt in others. for example my neighbor was arrested for no inspection sticker and no proof of insurance and I know she is good for the money but did not have it or anyone that could bring it to me so i could not get her out. But what i think is the sheriff is getting bad advise from a bondsman.

Seems to me that would violate a person's civil rights....that sheriff is setting his county up for major lawsuits. I would point that out to your county attorney.....

the county attorney agrees with the sheriff and the sheriff got that idea from a bondsman. There are alot of fly by night companies around here. He is trying to stop the bondsmen surrendering because the didn't make a payment or what not. But it is not working. There are bonding companies that will get out a person on $100,000 bond and only collect $100.00 But it still is not helping.

In Louisiana it was the same way the Parish (County) Sheriff was the God of that parish and you played by his rules. I wish all states were like Indiana as it is a felony to credit bond. No pay you stay.

Well the industry use to be easy down here i could easily bring in $10,000 or more a week but since we got a new sheriff its been about $5000 a week. They have also been releasing people on House arrest I had a guy go to jail for armed robbery on a $300,000 bond the next day he was released on a pre trial release of house arrest. A girl i had to bond out on a msd. got house arrest on a sexuall battery of a 5 yr old. Ms is only supose to let people out on a pretrial reales like house arrest if they have not committed a violent crime i consider those violent crimes.
